Best book of the Silo series.
A fair number of reviewers here have already addressed the large number of plot holes that this book introduces into the universe. I read and listened to Wool from an omnibus, but had to return the book to the library, so listened to/read Shift from a different edition.
Firstly, the two female characters of significance in this story (I am not including one that only really comes in at the end as probably relevant in the next book) fit very neatly and two-dimensionally into the madonna/whore dichotomy. There's nothing more to say about that. They were there to be motivation for the male characters. Their personalities were irrelevant.
Knowing where Wool ended (and what was thus going to happen in the future of Shift) made this book incredibly anti-climactic. There was more detail on things that could have been assumed.
There were nice moments -- I enjoyed parts of the details of silo life, and the story of Solo (Jimmy) and Shadow. Mostly, I felt the opposite of the way I felt at the end of Wool – with that, I was pleasantly surprised. This just felt like a long, slow history lesson with an ending I already knew.
(The VA performance was excellent).

I didn't like this as much as the first, but it was still very enjoyable. I can't what to see what the final book will bring.
