Thank you to Simon & Schuster Australia for kindly sending me an ARC of this book for review!
The idyllic neighbourhood of Lowland Way is thrown into chaos and uproar when a resident passes away and leaves her house to a distant relative, Darren Booth. Darren and his partner Jodie do not fit in, to put it mildly and the neighbours start to take matters into their own hands when complaints to the police and the council fall on deaf ears, with devastating consequences. But who exactly is to blame?
I thought this book was a very good read, although I have to say that although the newcomers to the street are "those people" all of the characters in the book are pretty awful and I pretty much found all of them to be the neighbours from hell in various different ways, with the exception being Sissy!
The only criticism I have of the book is that it drags a little in places and is overly drawn out. Overall though, I found it an intriguing storyline and it definitely kept you guessing, as almost every character had a motive for the events that took place.

this book was unbelievably boring and every single character was annoying, the ending slightly made up for it but not really
This book tries to be Big Little Lies, but falls short.

This book starts when Darren and Jodie move in on a street full of middle class Londoners, but Darren and Jodie don't follow the rules and soon disputes over loud music and parking rights escalate to threats of violence. This book was okay at best, I liked how it was a very plausible plot line that I am sure people could relate to in some way or another however I believe that the characters were a bit dull and not loveable at all. The plot twists weren't mouth dropping and slightly predictable, the author built up tensions and suspense at the end to a non-satisfying ending where I don't feel like it's finished. I think this book's downfall was that the characters are too relatable and for me I don't read books where the characters have no depth or proper backstory to them. All in all I probably wouldn't recommend this book.
Graphic: Alcohol, Classism
Moderate: Death
Minor: Drug use
This is my fourth book by Louise Candlish and I have enjoyed every single one of them. She has the ability to take mundane circumstances and make them extraordinary stories and an absorbing read. I loved the different points of view, the snippets of newspaper articles and the police interviews. This was one of the best formats to get a story of the multitudes told. I loved how she was able to surprise me many times throughout the book, everyone was a suspect and I mean everyone. This was a very character driven story with a very unique plot and I loved the ending!
After reading my review of The Heights my GoodReads pal, Kelly recommended this to me. Her review is much better and a lot giffier (is that a word?) and can be found HERE. I recommend you have a look as her reviews are always awesome and make me laugh.
I really enjoyed this one and with a surprising 3.3 rating here I never would have picked it up...Thanks Kelly!
