First CB novel I read and to be honest I liked it. I'm going to just skip the part about Bhagat's horrible writing but the way story unfolds at various stages made it a bit more likeable.

Okay, i'm going to be honest and say that when I first read it, I thought it was nice. Why? Because at that time, any book I read felt nice. I was a moron. Now that I've read so many different books I have a different way of rating them and I just don't give these stars easily.
This book was refreshing when I read it. It covered IIT's, an institute I had worked my ass off trying to get in. And no surprise here, I didn't get in. Why? Cause I worked my ass off. but I digress.
Other than that, the story had a very decent plot and the love story was just meh. So yeah, it was okay-ish.

What not to do at IIT? Read this book.
This book is an insult to the English language and our collective intelligence as a human race. Not only does it contain some of the most absurd plot points, the language is unbearably bad. Chetan Bhagat needs to take English lessons.
It's astonishing how removed the author is from the reality of college life, despite being from IITs himself. This book couldn't be far from the experience of any college student, much less an IITian. It seems the author fantasized about living such a lifestyle while he was a student. Maybe it was a fever dream. So he wrote a book.
This book is tailor made to be picked up for a bollywood "masala" adaptation. 3 Idiots is a phenomenal movie and disgraces this book by far. The movie is not only a brilliant social commentary but also a phenomenal piece of entertainment. The book fails on both fronts. I don't think it even set out to be the first.

This book is seriously overrated. I was in class five when I first read this book. Some of you might say that I was way too young to be reading such a book, but then we all need a break from kiddish stories once In a while in our childhood. I was in attending a school play (which was too long and pointless), when my eye caught this book in the hands of the girl next to me. She was definitely in class eight or nine. At that time the book was very, very popular since the movie was coming out and everyone wanted to know about the book as well. I had heard a lot about this book and so I begged the girl to let me read the book, promising her that I would take good care of It. As it turned out, the book wasn't that good at all. In fact the movie was way better.
The story is about three boys who go to IIT for engineering and get into the worst kind of mess possible. The book covers a variety of subjects (ragging, drinking, college love and so on) but fails to achieve it's basic objective: telling a good tale. Though some parts of it were interesting, most of it was so boring that I had to pinch myself in order to not fall asleep while reading it.

I loved the book since I was able to relate it to my college life. Otherwise I would say it is a ok book.
