Well what should I say? It wasn't after all that bad experience. Well ok not really the best book in the world but then I don’t think there is any book that is the best. Every book is good in its own way and has room for more improvement. Many people told me that this book has a lot of gross material. Well if this book has gross material well then I think even harry potter is gross.
So the story begins at IIT-Delhi 4 torturous years and 3 friends- Hari Kumar, Ryan Oberoi, Alok Gupta. The question is will they survive and will they be able to cope up with the standard expected from someone at IIT.
Once upon a time at IIT there lived three friends--- Hari a fat boy who unfortunately falls in love with his Professor’s daughter. Lacks self confidence poor at studies and does what Ryan tells him to do.
Ryan Oberoi-(my favorite character), a fan of sci-fi and a person with original ideas. Had Ryan not been there in the book, the book would have been completely bland.
Alok- sad, loser, favorite pastime- crying and blaming others for his mistakes. For him the family comes first but alas he is not able to stand upto his own expectations. He really wants to be the best so lands up with a good job and can help his family and his sister can get married
These 3 underdogs somehow managed to get admission in IIT and now are bombarded with tests, fierce competition from peers and with a pressure of being best. With each passing test they make a promise to themselves that (especially Alok) from now on they’ll be studying more, hard and score more than 5 points or above average score. Well that day of course never comes. On top of everything Hari manages to find a girl and becomes his beau, who later on turns out to be Prof. Cherain’s daughter. Ahm…………I’ll say that again PROF. CHERAIN’S DAUGHTER. Ryan in the entire book will look like a guy with big mouth and maybe no brains but in the end it’s because of Ryan that they manage to get a degree. He and his Hollywood stunt ideas land him and his friends in a trouble numerous times. But he is a guy with original idea and someone whom you can call intelligent. Despite everything he never changes his attitude and without studying, unlike Alok, scores equivalent to him. Alok in the entire book, till the patch up, keeps on saying that they should be studying hard and hates Ryan for numerous reasons. He gets hyper very easily and is quite naïve.
3 underdogs and one aim- get the degree and get the hell out of the college and have a happy life but of course it’s not that easy. Filled with drama, romance and comedy Bhagat has given a very realistic view of the present Indian education system and raises a good question. Are we seriously being given education or producing trained donkeys?
Not a single page goes that you won’t turn without laughing. From being almost expelled from college to Ryan’s weird but funny ideas (definitely including the one where they try to steal the exam question paper from Prof. Cherain’s office by hanging from the roof…………….. well Ryan you are not a part of Mission Impossible ).

If you are an Indian well then IIT does not need any introduction but if not well in simple terms it is the biggest most reputed engineering college in India and getting admission there is next to impossible even if u scored 100/100 throughout your life. It might be a book which tells u what not to do at IIT but it definitely does not tell u how to get into IIT. Reading this book at least proves one thing that in which ever college you might get into they all are same.
It was the fourth and last CB book that I read. And yes, the worst too. In fact, one of the worst books I ever read. It was a mess. Poorly written, under developed characters and over-used premise. I don't get this whole IIT premise thing. Aren't there about more than hundred good engg. colleges in India? Why, for the love of God all the guys end up in IITs? And just so you know, it isn't easy to get into one (I myself have qualified the JEE but getting into a decent IIT was a tough nut to crack).
After finishing FPS, (which was a lot to ask) I just had one question for CB. Mr. Bhagat, can you please stop writing craps like this and focus on something sensible?
