I'm not even going to lie — I loved this Disorderly Conduct. It felt like a return to the Tessa Bailey of old, back when she was writing her Line of Duty and Broke and Beautiful series. Those will always be my favorite series of hers. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy most of her recent books... but those have a special place in my heart. I was a little nervous going into this new series, wondering if it would be more like the Tessa of old or the newer version. As much as I enjoy what she's written lately, I'm incredibly happy to see her return to what I consider her roots — back when the characters were fun (and funny), the romance was swoony and the sexy times had plenty of dirty talk, but weren't TOO over the top (for me, personally).

I've always enjoyed the friends with benefits trope — particularly how it just never stays that way. Charlie and Ever's agreement to keep things casual obviously wasn't going to work for long. They had tons of chemistry and, underneath it all, they both wanted more. They were just afraid to admit it. At least at first. I was left basically grinning from ear to ear as Charlie basically sabotaged Ever's efforts to move on. Some might find it creepy and overbearing, but I found it pretty charming, for the most part. What can I say? I'm a sucker for when the guy goes "all in" for the girl. It makes me swoon all over the place. Charlie definitely delivered the swoons.

The Academy series is off to a good start and I can't wait to see what comes next. If the other books are anything like Disorderly Conduct, I'm going to like them all.

FAVORITE QUOTES

She's mine. I'm hers. We're ours. Unofficially, of course.

She likes it down and dirty. Sweating, swearing, filthy-talking, come-to-Jesus sex that leaves nail marks on my back.

"No one moves like us, Ever. No one talks to each other without words like us. Don't you know that?"

Disappointing idiots-in-love story with realistically immature young adults and realistic (but unsatisfying) obsession/infatuation in the place of love.

Abandoned at 40% read.

The main male character is a police trainee who meets a girl at a bar, has sex with her for a month, then obsesses over her when she breaks it off. He stalks her, basically, and is generally a creep. A creep who wants to be a cop.

So much wrong with this book. Bailey can write a funny, open-door book with the best of them, but there is no romance here, just sex and stalking. The female lead just seems to be an object for the male lead to pursue.

Raw language, explicit sex, and overall a bummer of a read.

I attempted to read a book that is releasing this week. I got about 10% in and I knew that while it was going to a very steamy book, I knew that the heart, the soul, the relationship was not going to be properly developed. Needless to say, I DNF’d and moved on.

Not long after that, I started Disorderly Orderly Conduct and I thought, “YES! This is how you do it!” And that reminded me once again, how good Bailey is at combining passion, sexy times and an actual relationship.

Ever and Charlie are in utter and complete denial as far as the status of their “relationship”. Neither one thinks they want a relationship or want to settle down and fall in love. Things do change for Ever and she goes on a hunt for a man to settle down with, which thank goodness, spurs Charlie into action. And let’s face it, he is a GONER for Ever. Oh, and did I mention that he calls her “Cutie” and she calls him “Big Man”? Good LAWD.

Not only does Bailey combine passion and relationship development, she’s so freaking funny. I found myself laughing out loud one minute and swooning the next. I know that I’m talking about how much I love this book, but I really do love it. If you’ve read Bailey, it reminds me of her first series, Line of Duty, which was EXCELLENT. Charlie is alpha and ridiculously sexy like the LoD men were. Plus, he is not afraid to pour his heart out to Ever.

This was cute, but that’s kind of it for me.

True to Tessa Bailey’s writing this one was hot and heavy and leaves nothing to the imagination.
