DNF. The first couple chapters were hot and heavy, but as soon as it became about the male character sabotaging the female character’s attempt to love on from him, I couldn’t get past any more. I also hated the way the male’s chapters first character narrative read. It was choppy writing and he was a young, pompous ass.
The player just got played by a novice to the game. Tessa Bailey knows how to deliver sexy while keeping it sweet. Disorderly Conduct takes every stereotype about relationships and bends the rules. Ever as unique as her name. She acts tough, but that's just a facade to keep the pain and loneliness at bay. Charlie can be a jerk, but when he cares about anything or anyone, he's all in. One night of sex leads to a casual no strings relationship. Until emotions become involved? Will "nothing serious" turn into happily ever after? Something special has arrived.

This book is problematic as hell, but also extremely charming. If the hero were a real person, you'd get a restraining order for him.
That being said, there is something to the fact that the heroine wanted his attention (not his lies and manipulation though). What he does is totally messed up and creepy and would make him someone you'd tell a friend to run from. That we know the heroine has feelings for him softens some of his horrifying behavior, but never so much that the story seems like one you can revel in as a reader. If the bad behavior had stopped when he made his offer of friendship to her (a ploy to get her in bed) and then he'd come clean you could have forgiven him, but he doesn't so you can't.
The story still has charm. If you can ignore that the hero is a stalker, then their interactions are sometimes quite delightful. And he can be romantic (a little too over the top for me, but still romantic). I don't know. This book is complicated for me, which is not what I want from an escapist romance novel.

Where do I start? Epic groveling by the hero, Charlie, earned one star for this book by a favourite author of mine, Tessa Bailey. However, that star only served to cancel out the deduction for the hero being such a twat. Add to that the fact that he was in training to be a cop, and all I can say is that Charlie has many a disciplinary hearing in his future. Not to mention his friend Jack, who is a semi-functioning alcoholic and one wonders just how they managed to get into the police academy.
While this is definitely a hook-up to friends to forever love story, there are some other themes as well: toxic masculinty and its harmful effects, parents passing their psychoses onto their children, and women standing firm in their choice to put themselves first. Ever, the heroine, was an enjoyable character who was gutsy and self aware for someone so young. Charlie had some serious issues stemming from his parents' actions that barred him from serious relationships. Both Ever and Charlie did the work necessary to get through their problems but Charlie's selfishness was a real turnoff for me.
It's always nice when the main characters have a good supporting cast of friends and such was the case here. I hope that Ever's roommate and friend, Nina, finds love in a future book.

| These two kept breaking my heart between making me smile and squirm! They were stupidly hot together, probably why it clouded their judgment so much, that amount of steam would’ve made seeing straight difficult. That meant they never saw what was right in front of them the whole time. All the laughs, the little moments, the secret ways, but when it all became apparent, our boy stepped up big time and let her know, he had been hers right from the start <3
I was surprised by this one! I really enjoyed the dynamics of this couple, the ways they figured each other out and how it felt kind of different from Tessa’s writing style. Definitely adding the next two to my list!
