Thanks to the author and publisher for providing an e-arc on Edelweiss!
I really enjoyed the cosmic horror theme to this novel and I loved the writing style (this is the first book of theirs I have read). My partner is a huge fan of his work! I just feel like I wanted more from the story that wasn't delivered.

This book changed my definition of horror.
I want to love LaRocca so bad but I think he just isn't for me. I'm all for dark horror but this was not it. A lot of this didn't make sense and I felt pretty bored for most of it. I didn't care for the characters either as well as found the 3 different story lines unnecessary. I personally don't want to be bored if I'm reading a horror book. There is also a lot of violence and trauma (rape scene) so just a warning there.
Also i'm sorry but if you tell a poor child who's blind you have a magic stick.....and then the mother proceeds to ask for your number?!!?!?!? File under things that would never happen.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book

Good. I really struggled to get the plot and what was going on. I knew they were all going to converge into one story at some point but didn’t expect how it did. Not sure I would have been as into this if I read the physical book, but listened to it on my way to and from work and doing my other chores. It was a solid read. Not sure I am an Eric LaRocca fan but his writing definitely paints a picture.

Bienintencionado, pero hay una reseña en GoodReads que explica perfectamente donde esta actitud falla, así que no me siento con necesidad de repetirlo. Un pobre esfuerzo.
So many interesting individual threads, and none of them felt like they truly came to a satisfying conclusion.
Most disturbingly, the gay couple in the book are given a storyline as if they matter, but really they only seem to be there to have horrible, traumatic and violent things happen to them, just to have it wiped from their memories at the end. It feels very "kill the gays" trope... Except they live? If you're going to highlight all of their horrific trauma, it would be nice to have them have any sort of agency in the book, and not have them be seemingly main characters who are solely victims to further the narrative.

I ended up speeding it up fast enough so I didn’t really have to listen to it around 37% and skipping chapters and I lost interest really quick. I might have liked a physical book more possibly but I wasn’t into this audiobook. It didn’t hold my attention.
I’m so disappointed in this. I really love Eric LaRocca and I don’t know what happened here. It has none of the unique cleverness of his other stories. It doesn’t even feel like it was written by LaRocca. I typically adore how messed up his stuff is but the most disturbing part of this book feels completely out of place and a bit exploitative.
