Fortune does such an incredible job telling dual timelines - it’s never confusing or feeling like you’re missing out on things, but it also doesn’t feel like it’s too much. While I loved This Summer Will Be Different, I’d say this one was more of a “really liked it.”
I found myself ever so slightly not in love with the characters as much as I expected to be, but they were still incredibly real and dimensional and I love that the conflict felt real enough to explain a 12 year long gap in the relationships. Genuinely can’t wait to read Fortune’s other book, Meet Me at the Lake, and auto-buy anything else she publishes.

A good summer read that will make you long for summers past when life was wrapped up in the comfort of your immediate surroundings. Overall this book was a fun read, I was somewhat surprised that I liked the teenage flashbacks more than the current happenings but maybe that’s because there seemed to be more depth and character. However sometimes these chapters felt a little slow. While I finished the book happy with the outcome I didn’t feel like I knew the cast of characters as they currently were. I saw the “twist” (not revealed until the 3rd act) coming from the beginning but was still disappointed when it happened. Overall it felt like I was wrapped up in a version of The Summer I Turned Pretty for an older audience and with a narrator who felt less aware of the dynamics at play than she should have been.

okay this was a really sweet story and i love the family dynamic of the brothers but honestly it’s so close to love and other words… had i read this before i read that book i would have really really loved it but i think bc i love love and other words so so so much and this being so similar this book just felt like it was lacking something.. i still throughly enjoyed it but bc of my previous love for a similar book i don’t feel like i can appreciate this the same

4.5 stars! This felt like reading an Emily Henry book—which I love! As someone who grew up going go a cabin on a lake, this book was so nostalgic for me. Just a happy read. I haven’t read a book in a while where I read for hours and didn’t even realize, but this book made me do just that. Such a good beach read and a perfect light, summer book.
