Personally not a fan, but I was surprised that Peter actually liked it. He liked the flip pages inside best.

Now that my seven-year old has taken to (mostly) reading on his own, this was the first Dogman that I didn't get to read to him. As I've enjoyed the series so far, I decided to read it anyway - and I loved it. Possibly more than my kids did. There were tons of silly jokes (that made me laugh), but the themes of redemption, hope and the father-son relationship between the Peteys is the real strength of the story. Best Dogman yet.

I really love how Dav Pilkey is capable of hammering the reader over the head with his message and it still doesn't FEEL like he's doing that. I particularly liked the final point that we should do good because it's the right thing to do and not because we want credit. Petey's relationship with his father did a great job of showing that sometimes cutting out toxic family members is the right and healthy thing to do, and it's okay to not want to reconnect with someone who treated you poorly, even if that person is family.

Also, Dog Man is an important series that has far more literary merit than people give it credit for and that's that on that.

Was not expecting the emotional gut-punch I got when I read this to my six year old. Dav Pilkey could have used his talent to milk this series for all it was worth, and instead he's using his influence and popularity to reach out to tell the most vulnerable kids the things they need to hear the most in a way they can understand. My hat is off to you, sir.
