Perfect! I was obsessed with this book- I stayed up into the very early hours of the morning reading it without even realising!

The best slow burn enemies to lovers, rivals, orchestras, bands and music- so perfectly interwoven. What I wouldn’t give to hear Fugue No.1! I’m lucky enough to have played in an Orchestra a long time ago and this reminds me of the pressure, the joy and excitement of creating music and performing.

I thought Forget Me Not was good but Not Another Love Song is even better! Definitely one of my top reads of 2025!

This book was so frustrating but I loved every second of it. I cannot get over how obsesssssed Alex is with Gwen. I ate it up.

I was excited to read this book because I was classically trained in cello for ten years. I loved the concept of this book and it brought back a lot of memories of playing in an orchestra growing up… but the story was all over the place and executed poorly. All the plot lines felt half baked and crammed together, and the resolution was way too short for such a complex concept inflict with multiple layers. I also found the two protagonists really unlikable in opposite ways. Xander was manipulative and egotistical and Gwen was incredibly naive and a complete pushover.
I had a really tough time empathizing and rooting for them (especially Gwen) because it felt like the final conflict with Nathan was self-inflicted— she had every freaking warning about him and didn’t do anything about it until it was almost too late!

There’s also a lot of inaccuracies with how they talk about the instruments (which I expected going into this book). There’s no way Gwen could’ve played the cello even remotely well at that wedding— the violin and cello are VERY different instruments that require different muscle groups, use/play different clefs/octaves, and different strings. A professional musician would not let strangers play their instrument willy nilly and wouldn’t take such…liberties…with someone actively playing the instrument. Also, asking someone to sight read during a concert is just cruel.

And did they really have to desecrate the cello like that?! Like, c’mon…

Anyway, the two stars are going to the fact that the concept of the book did  inspire me to start practicing music again after a much too long hiatus. It’s just a shame that the book was so disappointing.
