I really enjoyed this book as I typically do with Ahern's books. I wish I had written a review when this story was still fresh in my mind. This book had some great life lessons and showed me the importance of slowing down and enjoying life.

Lū - ārēji fantastiski veiksmīgs vīrietis - izskatīgs un šarmants, skaista sieva, divi bērni, māja pilsētas labākajā rajonā un veiksmīga karjera. Un karjera ir tas, kas Lū dzen uz priekšu. Viņš grib arvien vairāk - grib būt pārāks, kāpt pa karjeras kāpnēm, aizbēgt no savas ģimenes un ļauties ārlaulības sakariem. Būt pirmais visur. Patiesībā jau no paša sākuma Lū kā stāsta galvenais varonis izraisa nepatiku ar savu zemiskumu un gļēvumu, taču vienlaikus arī žēlumu.
Lū nav vienmēr bijis tāds. Viņš pats sev un ģimenei ir kļuvis par citu cilvēku savas svārstīgās pašapziņas dēļ un allaž cenšas pierādīt, ka var vairāk un ir labāks kā citi. Tieši tādēļ, lai parādītu, cik augstsirdīgs ir, kādu dienu Lū sarunā darbu kādam bezpajumtniekam Geibam un līdz ar to sākas neparasts piedzīvojums, kas ļauj Lū būt divās vietās vienlaicīgi, lai pagūtu visu - tieši kā viņš vienmēr ir vēlējies.
Slavenā romāna “P.S. Es Tevi mīlu” autores Sesilijas Ahernas romāns ir mistisks un patiesībā skumjš Ziemassvētku stāsts. Grāmatu paķēru vāka noformējuma un ceturtā vāka apraksta dēļ, kas solīja Ziemassvētku stāstu. Es neteikšu, ka gaidīju daudz no šīs grāmatas, bet sagaidīju vairāk kā cerēju. Jā, stāsts bija salīdzinoši viegls, diezgan klišejisks un ļoti atgādināja Ziemassvētku filmas scenāriju (jāsaka, ka esmu pārsteigta, ka balstoties uz šo grāmatu nav izveidota kino filma), taču stāstam nebija ne vainas. Līdz pat stāsta beigām īsti nevarēja saprast, kāds būs stāsta fināls, kas ir noslēpumainais Geibs un vai Lū sapratīs, kas ir dzīves īstās vērtības. Taču man kā lasītājam viscaur grāmatai lika vēlreiz aizdomāties, kas tieši dzīvē ir svarīgs un vērtīgs.
“Ja, tev ir četrpadsmit gadu un tu domā, ka tev ir milzum daudz laika, bet tā nav. Nevienam no mums nav. Nevienam no mums nav. Mēs ar to šķiežamies tikapt devīgi kā pircēji ar naudu janvāra izpārdošanās.”

absurda komēdija ar pārsteidzošu noslēgumu. Jo laiku mēs šķiežam kā Janvārī naudu pēc-ziemassvētku atlaidēs.
I so wanted to like this story, but I just couldn’t get on board with it. I hated the main character, found him to be absolutely Insufferable. And the story line was… weird. At certain points it felt a twisty version of “It’s A Wonderful Life”, but without all the things that makes that a wonderful movie. I’m still super confused about Gabe. Who was he even?
There are two types in books which preach and teach us. One is a straightforward non-fiction style, giving us all the truths and facts of the concept it is dealing with and the other is presenting us the same knowledge but in the form of a fictional story. I personally feel the second style to be more effective because it keeps our interest in the book in the form of a story and at the same time makes us think about the in-depth meaning it is trying to tell us. The Gift by Cecelia Ahern belongs to this category. In the form of a story, Ahern teaches us the value of time and relationships in an interesting way.

But in his desperation to be on top of his job, always ends up, in him sacrificing the time with his wife, kids, and family. His life changes when he meets Gabe, a homeless man who sits outside his office. Lou befriends him and gives him a job in his office on a whim. Who is Gabe and how could he change everything in Lou's life and what happens, in the end, forms the rest of the story. This is a story that teaches us the value of time and what is truly important in life. An enjoyable Christmas read but somehow it couldn't move me so much.

The thing about Ahern's writings that I like the most is that she managed to write emotional stories without being sappy. The Gift itself is not an exception.

I had a hard time getting into this one. In fact I almost didn't finish it, but once I hit the middle of the story I was hooked.
Picked this one up as I wanted to read something festive during the holidays. Not Cecelia Ahern's best (I'm still partial to P.S. I Love You), but a solid holiday-read.
I usually love Cecelia's books but that wasn't the case with this book. I just really didn't like the main character, which made it hard for me to get into the book.
