Well sometimes I just want to relax and forget the world with some gentle, easy reading. This is always what draws me towards books like this. I can switch off and let my mind be wrapped up in a nice little world for a while. On this occasion I wanted something seasonal and saying as this was released in winter and had Christmassy themes I thought I'd give it a go. I must admit I enjoyed this much more than some of the authors other books. The idea behind it was reminiscent of those well known Christmas tales by Dickens and later a string of films with the same basic themes. The main message is about time, our time on earth is short and we should live it to the fullest with those we love.
This was another one that seriously made me cry which was a surprise as through the majority of the book I hated the lead character, as the author wanted I assume. Still I'm a sucker for character reform and the romantic notions that go with it. So overall another one for fans of the authors debut.

Saving until next year, don’t want to read anymore Christmas books

I expected a greater story, but I'll have to admit that it still touched me. I liked Cecelia's writing style since English is not my first language it was really easy to read. I finished the book in four days. I might actually try another book by Cecelia, but not in the main time. Stories Like this one need a specific mood to enjoy it.

Cecelia Ahern is an incredible author. Her writing is poetic, yet to the point. the opening 2 pages explaining Christmas are so true that I have read them to everyone I know to make sure no one misses out on such writing! Her stories are far from the romantic, chick lit you expect, including 'The Gift'.
The story itself was 'It's a Wonderful Life's esque, but the meaning behind it was eye opening. As with a number of her books, this book didn't fail to tug on my heart strings and make me cry. The Christmas theme with the message Cecelia portrays couldn't be better linked. I enjoyed this book greatly.

This is a modern retelling of A Christmas Carol. Lou is a narcissistic workaholic obsessed with his daily grind as a successful businessman. Every day he takes his wife and young children for granted giving them whatever scraps of himself are leftover from long days at the office, nights at the pub and extramarital affairs.
Until he meets Gabe. Gabe is a man experiencing homelessness that lives on the street near his office. On an impulse Lou feels sympathy for him and offers him a job in the mailroom of his company. Everything changes in Lou’s life after he and Gabe cross paths and Gabe begins to reveal Lou to himself.
Cecelia Ahern has a wonderful writing style. I couldn’t put this book down. Even though the story of A Christmas Carol is well known, the ending surprised me. The feelings I had for Lou were a roller coaster ride throughout the book 🎢
If you want a Christmas read that goes deep but keeps it’s sparkle I recommend this one ✨
3.75/5 ⭐️ - I enjoyed it a lot.

I think Ahern got tired of pitching a script to Lifetime and just put the story in a book instead.
