"But if I’ve learned nothing else, it’s that nobody was who I thought. Everyone had secrets. Trust is a luxury for fools. The more I discover, the less I trust my own memories, even."

There's something about Megan Miranda's writing that is straight up addictive. I had some time to myself and I'm so glad I started this one- finished the same day! Listen, this isn't life-changing fiction but it's entertaining and takes you along for a fun, wild ride.

If you like a good twisty mystery where you can't trust anyone and not all is as it seems then do yourself a favor and pick this one up. As with all her books that I've read so far Miranda keeps you guessing till the very end!

Jessa is grieving for her ex-boyfriend who was proclaimed lost and dead in a flash flood. His mother comes to her to ask Jessa to pack up his room, as she and his little sister are moving away. His mother says that packing is room is not something a mother should have to do and Jessa is a good candidate because his room is full of Jessa, from pictures to other objects that detail the timeline of their relationship. Jessa agrees as she hopes to figure out why their relationship ended in the first place and what secrets Caleb was keeping. Along the way, she discovers more than she thought she might. This novel is quite an intriguing idea and I really found myself drawn in from the start - it became hard to put the book down. The characters are great, the mystery is shocking, and the adventure to the discovery is addicting, giving you just enough new information to keep you wanting to read and try to discover the secrets before Jessa.

Just not for me!

Jessa is forced to clean out her missing/dead boyfriend Caleb's bedroom and she starts to realize she didn't know Caleb as well as she thought.

This was my first Megan Miranda book. While I'm not a huge fan of YA thrillers, this one was captavating for sure. I loved the short chapters which made the book fly by. I also think the use of found items to tell stories through flashbacks was brilliant.

I would have given this 5 stars, however about 3/4 through the book I figured out the ending which made it a bit predictable. Still a great fast paced read though.

Megan Miranda is a masterful storyteller. She winds you through and gives you just enough to keep you interested and guessing. The plot to this book is deceptively simple: a girl who has to clean up the room of her ex boyfriend who disappeared. Each item in the room becomes a clue and Jessa becomes convinced there’s more to the story.

Jessa is a pretty flat character. There’s not a whole lot to her. I’ve seen other reviews that get worked up about that but I find I like that she was a regular girl. She was admittedly not the best runner. She’s pretty but average and wonders why a boy like Caleb is into her. The fact that she’s unremarkable makes her even more interesting and relatable. I get so tired of young adult fiction painting their heroines as sassy but they just come off as whiny and grumpy. So really, Miranda’s choice to make her main character just absolutely average was genius.

I’m a huge fan of Megan Miranda because she’s become a trusted author who delivers a quick, suspenseful, and entertaining novel every time.

Okay so first things first.
Does anyone else find it strange that Caleb’s mom is having his ex-girlfriend clean out his bedroom and go through all of his things? In what world is this normal? Sure, a mother “shouldn’t have to do it” but an ex-girlfriend should?

I didn’t really connect with any of the characters and that made this book a drag to get through. Jessa and Caleb are impossible to like. Hailey is an actual afterthought to the story and Max is just too bland to even try to come up with a reason as to why I should be rooting for him.

The writing was done well enough that I thought there was going to be a light at the end of this tunnel at some point, but the “big reveal” was predictable and honestly just too over the top for a cast of teenagers. This one just didn’t work for me.

im bored and i don’t care abt the characters the main character is a little annoying and the audio book isn’t that good

That was a fun little puzzle.

I love the way the story unfolds; it is like picking up a puzzle piece and thinking how it fits with the bigger picture except each puzzle piece also hold a memory, an emotion. The frequent flashbacks throughout the narrative built an amazing connection between me, Jessa and Caleb. I think this style made the story so much more interesting than if everything had been laid out in a line. Uncovering bits of information built the suspense and kept me interested in the details of the relationship.

I love how the characters grow. Jessa's ability to reflect on and analyze her relationship with Caleb brought such a mature element. I love how Megan Miranda never made excuses or justified the issues in that relationship.

There are so many fragments that make this book a thrilling whole.
