This book didn't really make much sense in my opinion and felt more like a mystery/contemporary rather than a thriller, which probably added to my disappointment a little bit going in.
I will rate it later when I know better what this reading left me!
Jessa's recently ex-boyfriend Caleb pass away in a car accident. Months after the accident Caleb's mother asks her to help to pack Caleb's things from his room. Jessa agrees to do it because she needs to know what really happened with Caleb.
"Everyone had secrets. Trust is a luxury for fools. The more I discover, the less I trust my own memories, even."
I read this book because it was the pick of the month from Literally Dead Book Club. Megan Miranda was on my radar for some time and I wanted to read her.
The book delivered more of a teenage drama that a Mystery, perhaps that was the reason why it didn't work for me. The author does a great job to create an angst drama atmosphere. Also, the idea of having every chapter named after an object that was important for the MC or the story was a nice touch that reinforces the feeling of loss. I don't know why this book reminds me of 13 reasons why. Maybe the fact that we accompany the MC in the quest to know what happened to their significant other.
The intention of the book is good, it wasn't complicated to read and the writing style was really good. But the pace was like seeing a career between two snails. It took a lot of effort to be not distracted with Netflix or YouTube or the flies that were caught in a spider web.

Honestly, I don't know how to rate this book. Because If I rate it as a Mystery-Thriller, it didn't do anything for me. If I am rating it as a predictable teen drama with a bit of mystery, then I could rate it higher.

Everyone has secrets. Trust is a luxury of fools.THIS BOOK IS CRAZY!! like TOTALLY crazy....and not in a good way.
A guy, Caleb, dies in an accident and his mother calls his Ex-girlfriend, Jessa to help clean his room.
As Jessa is packing up his things, she starts remembering moments from their past relationship which ultimately leads her into questioning everything about Caleb's life and thinking she may figure out some bigger truth...
Not an actual thriller but more like putting together the pieces of a puzzle to form a bigger, clearer picture.
The plot of this book had so much potential but it could reach nowhere near interesting..
The first half of the book was TOO slow-paced....then it finally picks up momentum but doesn't live up to it, giving us a too boring of a reveal. Lost the momentum it once built.
I wasn't a huge fan of any of the characters.
Caleb's character~*pathetic*
Jessa~ unrealsitic, crappy.
Eve ~ Creepy as HELL!!
Max ~ too nice to fit in with any of these..
I must admit that some parts of Caleb and Jessa's relationship were cute..Also the brother-sister relationship on both Jessa's and Caleb's side was very nice..
And I did really enjoy the buildup. But that ending left me totally disappointed with this book, cause ultimately it is a mystery, right? It could have gone in so many directions..like
Spoiler
the real reason why the creepy lady,Eve, had been following Jessa all this time could have been much more horrifying..Spoiler
I would have been more surprised if Caleb was ACTUALLY dead.Anyways, this book does give the message that SOMETIMES WE THINK WE KNOW CERTAIN PEOPLE LIKE NO ONE ELSE...BUT ALL WE ACTUALLY KNOW ABOUT THEM ARE THE PARTS THEY WANT US TO KNOW.
2.5 stars probably.
This book was too slow and boring for too many pages for the "mystery" to be that careless and have no way of being plausible in any sense.

Caleb is dead; killed going through the guardrail of a bridge during a flash flood. Is Jessa to blame for his death? Was he upset when he left during the track meet? Did they argue due to their recent break up? This is what most people think, and even Jessa begins to wonder about how much of what people are saying is true, so she needs to find out more, find out why he left the meet, find out why he took her lucky necklace when she asked him to hold it for her as if they were still together. Thus begins her search for answers. When Caleb's mother asks Jessa to sort out Caleb's things and pack them up to be sold or donated, Jessa sees an opportunity to find some answers.
This story contains a very good mystery with puzzling clues that lead to more puzzling clues before the solution to the mystery is revealed. However, too much of the early part of the book is spent with Jessa going though Caleb's things and questioning everything about their relationship as well as slowly dissecting her grief over his death. The book is broken into three parts with the real mystery beginning in part two, well past the first two thirds of the book. This would have been a sensational book had it been shorter with a tighter story line. Overall though, worth the read.
