This was one very beautiful book which tells us to take things as it comes, take things lighter, be optimistic and be yourself. It is about young boy Ramon who loves to draw anytime, anything, anywhere. One day when he was drawing a vase his brother Leon criticized him and made him feel bad. He tried seeking perfection in his drawing by trying to draw that vase. After trying for two whole months and filling the room with crumpled papers. One day he was fed up. His sister Marisol came up and took a crumpled up sheet and ran to her room. Ramon chased her down her room. And when he entered he was surprised to see a gallery of crumpled papers on the wall. Marisol said pointing to one "This one's my favorite". Ramon explains her that it was supposed to be a vase but he couldn't draw perfectly. Marisol replied "But it looks vase-ish!". Ramon observed all of his drawings and realized that all of them were ish. From then on he realized that he sought happiness whenever he drew ish. And his love for being ish-ly and art increased. And soon enough he started writing ish. But one spring morning he felt something that he could not even describe in ish words or ish art. It was so beautiful that he decided not to capture it but to savour it. And he lived ish-ly ever after. This story teaches us to stop looking for perfection in everything and live life with its flow and enjoy the moment. We all get criticized by people. Society, friends, family even your own parents. And we go out in a journey to get a good name from those people. But what we don't realize is that we change our true selves in the process, mend ourselves when we aren't even damaged. All of that ruins the day, the hour, the peace of mind. And we forget to enjoy the moment. We forget the live. We just survive to get a good name that we never needed. So, next time you ever try to mend yourselves, question yourself - "Do I really need to change for others?", "Am I not forgetting to live the moment?" Life is ish. Live as it comes by. Ish....

I love how this and another Peter Reynolds book The Dot encourage kids to make art, even if they think they can't.

This was a wonderful book. There are several lessons and talking points that can be teased out.
