I always love Pilcher's cozy writing & characters (especially the older women) but this was my least favorite of Pilcher's books. The story sort of dragged for me and I wasn't as invested in the characters. Was also confusing with similarly-named characters

Rosamund Pilcher is a master of setting a seasonal tone for her stories. Her books encourage you to slow down, appreciate the richness of the setting, focus on the pleasures of conversation and the relationships between the characters.

I wasn’t as invested in the characters of “September” as I was when  reading Pilcher's “Winter Solstice,” but this book provided the seasonal setting I was craving.

Pre - 3X  Originally read September before reading The Shell Seekers. 2nd time reading, I didn't realize that Noel is Penelope from The Shell Seekers son. I didn't like Noel in The Shell Seekers, He's all ways out for himself. I vaguely remember him as just falling into a relationship in September because he was tired of dating.  This time as I have just finished reading The Shell Seekers it will be interesting to see what I think.

3X Update Minor  Spoilers - Having just read The Shell Seekers, I very much enjoyed the mentions of Penelope Keating in September. Especially Violet Aird reminiscing about meeting Penelope. As for Noel, he did have some character growth. But there was still a lot of selfishness and greed in him. He was more in love with the life style than Alexa. I'm reminded of something his sister Olivia said in The Shell Seekers. That Noel would end up married to some 'rich, well connected girl who would worship and adore him and to whom he would be consistently unfaithful. I honestly felt like he would have had an affair with Panadora if given the chance.

End of Spoilers

Still remains a 4 Star read for me. I mostly listened to audio Lottie is downright creepy. Henry was incredibly whiny. Wasn't particularly interested in that part of the story. Loved setting, party, Archie and Isabell storyline. Violet was my favorite. Spunky older ladies are my favorite things in Rosamunde Pilcher books.

2X Rereading along the Timeline. Actually begins in May.

1X Gentle read. Perfect choice to take along on my vacation to Scotland.  Beautifully descriptive. Plucky older women characters. Bit dated in places.
