Wow! Haven Grima has an amazing life story and the work she does for the deaf blind community is important. I learned a lot about the challenges faced by people with disabilities. The book though seemed aimed at a young audience- perhaps junior high. Still, worth reading.

An interesting book. Haben challenged me to rethink how the world works, and what can be done to make it more accessible.

Haben's reflections on community, accessibility and passion are excellent. I also loved hearing about the innovative ways she has forged communication as a deafblind person.

Could not love this book more - nor this author. She now joins Sonora Jha in the club called “authors I need to become best friends with” post-haste.
Her personality shines like a river in the sunshine. She is sweet, determined, and bold. Her emotional intelligence is off the charts and her commitment to advocating for disability justice is worthy of reverence. Her irreverent sense of humour and persistent giggle in the audiobook means you MUST listen rather than read this one.

I learned a ton. I respect all that Ms Girma has accomplished so far. I will be a better supporter going forward as a result of having read this book.

It just “feels” a little “text booky.”

For the month of November, Haben was our book to read for the Chronically Iconic Book Club

This book really surprised me! I actually decided to listen to it on audio…. Not expecting the actual author to do this. WRONG! Just incredible.

I had so many assumptions about someone who was death and blind and I was completely wrong to think these things. Haben proofs that being blind and death does not mean you can’t have a life or do things.

Very inspiring!

I am very glad that Haben Girma told her story! I learned a lot by reading about Haven’s experience as a Deafblind woman. The parts where she describes attending college and law school were the most interesting to me. I admire her ingenuity to figure out a technological way to communicate with people when her hearing started getting worse. I hope she writes another memoir about her next 30 years.
