Cute, predictable, beach read. Lots of characters to keep up with.

This was my first Jane Green Book and I wasn’t the biggest fan of this one. It could have been a good book if it was executed differently. One there is way too many characters to keep up. Each character should have been labeled by each chapter and not just a continuation of the previous one. Half the time of this book I was just trying to keep up to date with each character. It did get confusing! I will give her books another chance.

Could be a Hallmark movie. And they all lived happily over after except of course the guy who pretended suicide and disappeared for 35 years.. Although thanks to him, everybody got rich.
More of a young adult novel

Read this alongside my friend Kristin. After six chapters, she made two predictions. They were both correct! I'm so impressed!

Wish I could see a Christmas card painted by Daff.

This was a book club selection. Beach House is an easy, fluffy read about a group of well-to-do Easterners going through various mid-life crises. Normally, I like to read a fluffy book about once a year, & the nastier & pulpier the better. This book would seem to have all it takes to be really filthy: money scandals, affairs, & people coming back from the dead. But no, it was pretty benign & kind of boring. There were way too many characters. At one point, I couldn't distinguish between the guy who was having an affair from the other guy who was having an affair from the guy who wanted to have an affair. The best part of this book was catching the British vernacular that would pop up from time to time. Basically, this book is like wanting to eat a piece of decadent chocolate cheesecake & settling for a low calorie rice cracker.

To be honest, I did like some passages, but as I already mentioned to a friend of mine, the whole men and women meeting men and woman just really annoyed me.
A lot of the characters lives seem really shallow, and parts of it were unrealistically positive, such as with Jess, who suddenly becomes this really sweet kid again, even though she's just entering adolescence. Every teenager is going to have some problems with her parents, even if mild.

Listened to The Beach House on audio and enjoyed the narrator. The setting in Nantucket was good, and the setup of all the different characters in the beginning for an exciting story. However did not happen.

From the drama of (a widow which needs to supplement her income by renting out her house in the summer as a bed and breakfast with a husband who committed suicide or appeared so), a divorced couple with a brat teenage daughter which I wanted to choke with her two year old temper tantrums, to the couple with the gay husband who is in the closet and the owner’s son with the affair with a married woman he does not like. Everyone is all over the board with emotions.

I enjoy Jane Green; however, this was not her best. Looking forward to her newer books.
