For me, a three-star start, but a five-star finish (or really, a five-star second half).

I was sold during Tre's first heart-to-heart with Coach Whitefeather, and from there I couldn't put this book down. Well done, Mr. Byron Graves, on a fantastic debut!

This is a good YA book that focuses on an indigenous main character and his friends. Tre is living in the shadow of his dead brother and trying to follow in his footsteps to be a Red Warrior ball player. He wants to win the State championship  and be the first indigenous team to do so. He must first navigate his grief and the grief of his parents, friendship, unrequited love and a passion that forces him to do things he wouldn't normally do, including partying, to be accepted by his teammates. Will Tre get his act together and will he live and be seen as a person in his own rite instead of feeling like the a shadow of his brother?
