A true 3.5 star from me. Perfect for student athletes who dream of the NBA with lots of sports action. I thought about this book a lot when I was reading it (and when I wasn't reading it) and was excited enough by a player fouled while shooting to yell "AND 1!" more excitedly in my car than the audiobook narrator did :) I do think the slang is already somewhat outdated and will date the book quick.
I will say the audiobook narrator added NOTHINGGG to this for me. It was hard to differentiate voices from each other and sometimes even from differentiating dialogue from narration. I question the narrator's pronunciation of takis as "tackeys" (it really did take me out of the narrative to ruminate on whether it's me or the children who are wrong).

Tre loves to play basketball, and read comics. However, basketball has been taking the forefront lately, especially after his basketball star brother has passed away tragically in a car accident. He wants to live up to the hype of his brother, and father before him, and help take his high school team to be state champions. First, he has to make the team. Great for fans of basketball, but also generally lovers of realistic fiction where stories focus on friendship and families overcoming obstacles.
