A fun start to the trilogy centred around three sisters trying to secure their futures after their parents died leaving them in a lot of debt. This first book, Luck is No Lady, focuses on Emma - the oldest sister who is determined to see her younger sisters make it though their first season and make good matches. But despite wanting to keep face with the ton, Emma has to take a job (how scandalous! A working woman!) to be able to afford to keep them clothed and up to date with the current fashions. Oh and there’s also that pesky business with a loan shark coming to claim his money to deal with too. Enter Roderick Bentley - a gambling den owner who’s legitimacy (or lack there of) has him living on the fringe of society. He’s dangerous and not just because of high stakes underworld where he works.
I thought this was such a great introduction to the Chadwick sisters and their stories. It’s funny and exciting. There’s a lot of drama and action going on here and there’s plenty of steam between the sheets too. I enjoyed the somewhat hidden identity thing going on at the beginning but I also liked how it was resolved. Emma’s accounting skill was also great as was how Roderick didn’t dismiss her just because of her lack of a penis. Their intellects were well matched as were their passions.
We got to see the darker side of society with Lily’s story starting to play out and oh my. I’m so glad I wasn’t reading this series as it was released because I’m not sure I could have coped with the anticipation of having to wait to see what happened to Lily!
Enjoyed the characters and the story. Great aunt Angelique is a firecracker! I wish she was my sponsor too. The setting has been laid brilliantly for the next book in the trilogy and this a great book on it’s own as well.
Luck is No Lady was my first Amy Sandas novel but it won’t be my last. As of writing this I’ve already finished the trilogy because I just had to know how things went for the younger Chadwick sisters. Sandas has a wonderful style of writing, full of intrigue and romance. I will be looking forward to see what she writes next!

I had no real idea what to expect going into this but it was so charming and delightful! I really loved Emma's competence and determination. I loved Bentley being so much warmer than he seems. I'm delighted by the younger sisters and great-aunt Angelique. I really liked the Mason Hale plot - it went in a different direction than I had expected.
The thing I loved most: that Emma is the one who steps up and says, hey, I want to have sex with you. I mean, Bentley starts it with kisses and stuff--and then he backs away because he is absolutely not going to ruin a young woman of good name, and then Emma makes her own choices very deliberately knowing the potential consequences. It was a lovely way to handle consent. (Also, hot DAMN, that was hot stuff. *fans self*)
The one problem I had is that it's clear that several of these plots are intended to be resolved in sequels that are at least partially concurrent with this book, and that makes those plots feel incomplete. We don't get a resolution to the reason Emma is working for Bentley (from his side); we don't know exactly what went down with Lily; we don't know what is going on at all with Portia. I'm thoroughly interested in reading the latter two books, but it did make this one feel unfinished and knocked it down from five stars.

A woman good at math, a scandalous gambling den owner and love. Also very readable.

Lo he disfrutado como una niña pequeña y, gracias a él, se me ha pasado la semana volando. Es verdad que tiene algunas cosas que me han sacado de quicio, como la constante repetición del color de sus ojos o lo que sienten cada vez que cruzan miradas, pero los personajes están muy conseguidos y el drama me ha tenido enganchada desde el principio.
Tengo unas ganas enormes de seguir con esta serie... porque ya sé quieres son las parejas de las dos hermanas Chadwick restantes y no puedo dejar de sonreír por lo que se viene.

She will do anything to protect them, even if that means seeking employment as a bookkeeper at a gambling hell. Her boss however, isn't a man any woman can ignore. At first Emma ignores the attraction she feels toward Roderick Bentley. The infamous owner of he gambling. A man who also understands the workings of the Ton since he was born a bastard and even though he has a brother that is a lord...he is not considered part of that society. Roderick deals with all manner of gentlemen through his business but only once Emma enters his life does he wish for more. Passions ignite the more they work together, and Emma will need to make a difficult choice the love she has for her sisters or the love she has found with Roderick and will she be able to fight for what matters most?
I have to admit I was super excited to read Luck Is No Lady. First off...the cover. When I first saw it I was instantly intrigued and I added it to my wish list before it even had a blurb. But I am so glad that I was able to get a couple to read for a honest review!! Man was this good....very enjoyable. The story sets off a bit slow, the first half is more like a steady rytym....not super engaging but not boring either. It still holds your interest, but once you reach half way, watch out because this story definitely put its hooks into me and wouldn't let go until I finished. I first want to mention, that this is the first book, I am assuming in dealing with the three sisters. Now each sister is unique in their own way, but also will fight to protect one another. Emma is the older of the clan, she is twenty five and is technically on the shelf. So she is endeavoring to aid her sisters find good matches. I really admired her loyalty to her sisters and trying to find some creative ways to get out of their gambling debts. Emma is very smart in mathematics, so she makes a great bookkeeper. I liked her spirit and fighting nature that she has. Our hero is a perfect match for her. He isn't one to hide away from the Ton, and they both tend to meet in dark places where they discover the desire they have for each other. Now the chemistry that these two have is explosive. But what I liked about Amy Sands, is the way she balances it out well with the other various elements of the story and the building of the emotional relationship between Roderick and Emma. The night of gambling Emma takes on was such a blast. I had so much fun reading that scene. Emma is a heroine I really admired, she is bold and daring when she needs to be. I like that she does what she needs to, no matter how nervous or afraid she might be. We are left with a bit of a teaser here at the end that involves the two sisters. I can't wait for the second book....hopefully it will be as fun as this book has been in the reading of it.
What a cover...its probably my favorite HR cover made this year!! I love how sensual it is, but displays a connection to the story in a real way. I really like the sun beaming down on the couple...such a nice effect.

I have to admit I was super excited to read Luck Is No Lady. First off...the cover. When I first saw it I was instantly intrigued and I added it to my wish list before it even had a blurb. I was looking through my books, and randomly picked this one to return to the world of historical romance. Which is a good thing. You see, I really liked this book. It featured a smart, responsible heroine, and a hero who owned a gambling club who was also very kind and thoughtful, despite his station in society.
I really liked Emma, the heroine. Not only was she very mathematically inclined, she was very watchful over her sisters. She wanted to do everything in her power to ensure their happiness. It did make her a bit too much of a martyr at times, but I was relieved to see that that was a lesson she had to learn in this novel. Emma had to realize that she had to do things that made her happy, not just things that would improve her sisters' future.
As for Roderick, he could easily have fallen into the stereotypical rakish historical hero. However, he was none of those things. He owned a gambling club, but...he was very kind. I loved his informality with his employees, and how Roderick would do whatever he could to reverse the wrongs he saw in the world. As the illegitimate son of an earl, Roderick was looked down upon by the ton. While he didn't particularly care for society, he knew how to use their want for wealth to become a rich man, and I found that quite intriguing.
The plot of this book followed Emma as she tried to pay off her father's debts which he'd left before his death. To do so, she ended up working in Roderick's gambling club. They'd had an encounter previously to this, but only after working at the club did they really get to know one another. I thought their relationship was nice and slow-burning. There was some action toward the end of the book as one of Emma's sisters got into an interesting situation due to the outstanding debt, but mostly, the story was on the slower side. I found that I enjoyed it, though.
In the end, this book was a nice way to pass the day. I really liked the relationship between the two main characters, I think it made them both even better people than they were. Emma learned to be happier and to do things for herself, while Roderick started to find a family. I am definitely interested to see what happens to Emma's sisters, which is good because I think the next two books in the series are about them. There were some interesting hints as to what happened to them in the epilogue of the book, but nothing definite. I'm a bit impatient to get my hands on the next installment.
