What a fantastic book to kick off 2024 with!

The Catch follows the story of Melanie and Evan. Fashion Influencer, Melanie, is feeling what all social medialites feel, the worry of irrelevance. In an effort to refresh her brand, Melanie finds herself in a rural fishing village in Canada. Unfortunately, her trip to Canada is nothing like she expected. First, there is a mixup with her reservations, which puts her on the radar of Evan Wheeler, a local Bed & Breakfast owner, who hates Melanie on the spot. Despite wanting to turn her away, fate keeps bringing this unlikely pair together. And when a boating accident lands Evan in the hospital, a simple lie from Melanie turns both of their worlds upside down.

I am a sucker for opposites attract, fake relationship romances with a broody male main character, and The Catch does not disappoint. The broodiness oozed off of Evan and provided some incredible banter and tension. Yes, Melanie and Evan were such an unexpected pair. But, when fate brings the two of them together in the most unexpected way, the sparks between them were off the chart. Suddenly, things weren’t as simple as they seemed and I couldn’t wait to see how it would all play out.

The Catch sucked me in from the very first page. I couldn’t help but fall for Melanie and Evan. They kept me on my toes and had me devouring each and every word of their story. This is my first book by author Amy Lea, and it certainly won’t be my last.

The brother and the plot around his sucks.

Honestly, this feels like a Walmart version of [b:It Happened One Summer|55659629|It Happened One Summer (Bellinger Sisters, #1)|Tessa Bailey|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1604991895l/55659629._SY75_.jpg|86795919]. The book starts off strong - it’s initially very cute, but gets boring once the MCs realise they like each other. I didn’t buy their chemistry, and the fake dating trope felt so unnecessary and shoved in.

I haven’t read [b:Set on You|58784485|Set on You (The Influencer, #1)|Amy Lea|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1632497547l/58784485._SX50_.jpg|92562027], but [b:Exes and O's|60880795|Exes and O's (The Influencer, #2)|Amy Lea|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1661199150l/60880795._SX50_.jpg|96016529] was so fresh and original compared to this.

Also, the book takes place over a timespan of 2 weeks… so Mel and Evan’s relationship develops quickly, which I’m not a fan of.

Despite the above, this was still a cute palette cleanser between heavier books. It’s super quick, and I enjoyed the small town romance vibes.

If the above doesn’t bother you, then you might have a better time with this than I did!

Amy Lea's last installment in her Influencer trilogy is exactly as one expects a romance novel to be.

It's fun.  It's cheesy.  It's filled with a romance that shouldn't work but does.

I continued to not really like the unrealistic influencer culture that seeped through this trilogy and the stereotypes throughout the novels.  But, it was a fun story and one that (honestly) three days later, I'm having trouble holding on to.

this one was so cute!!!!! nothing too too negative the whole time and the obstacles relatively keeping them apart were believable for once instead of frustrating
4.75 overall for her brother completely gaslighting her for “overreacting” when he was previously suicidal and then went radio silent for five days because that’s how long it took him to get his phone fixed. seriously??? absurd. and for 6 people buying airfare from Halifax to Boston to surprise her. cute but outrageous given that they have money problems dont they? lol

Really cute! I enjoyed it more than I thought I would and the audiobook was really well done.
