Read for Senior Citizen Book Group. Discussion was very lively. Themes touched on:
* marriage and how it changes
* how infidelity, particularly public infidelity, affects marriage
* mother/daughter relationships
* sibling dynamics

This was my 3rd attempt at reading it. I wanted so much to like it. I couldn't get into it. It dragged. The only character I found myself liking was the mother, the rest lacked depth.

This was a story full of the consequences of adultery, dressed as a cook book. This audiobook - classic CD disc version from a library book sale - made me hungry every time I hopped into my car.

If only this story was a drinking game for every time the author mentions a food item.  As my first Jennifer Weiner story, I'm not holding much hope for the rest.

Her character development for one was significant, but none of the characters were really likeable. I felt more annoyance towards them than sympathy.

Jennifer wiener has a special knack for portraying the complexities of adulthood. She addressed the challenge of being an ER doctor and making a mistake in a way that empathized with the heartbreak the doctor feels. I just wish she realized that we ER doctors don’t have offices or time to have steamy affairs in them ;)

I really liked the style of writing, however found myself getting frustrated with the characters.

More like 2.5 stars.

There was a looooot of telling in this book, not much showing.

Overall, a good and not too heavy read. It's really hard to believe that Weiner wrote this ten years before our current political scandals.

I actually found the plot about Lizzie to be the most intriguing of the three. Being a native Philadelphia who spent many hours at Washington Square, it was easy for me to picture the setting but I thought Weiner did a good job describing the other settings as well.

I would describe this as a good beach read but probably not a book you read when you are looking for much depth.
