This was the best of the "sequels" in my opinion, largely because the character development came as a result of the plot. Though, seriously, why make Damon human again if him becoming a vampire again was so simple? Why spend so much time on it at all?
I also hated the cliffhanger ending, because I know she's going to write more books. I also hate myself a little for knowing I'll read them. These books are literary Pop Rocks - no nutritional value, but fun because of the novelty factor.

Elena and friends have just returned from The Dark Dimension, rescuing Stefan from a dismal prison. Damon inadvertently opens a magical gift intended for Stefan, and finds himself human again (much to his frustration)! In an effort to restore his vampire status, Damon opens up a gateway to the Dark Dimension, and accidentally takes Bonnie with him. Stefan, still weak from his ordeal, helps Elena search for Damon, while Matt and Meredith stay in their hometown of Fell's Church. Evil kitsune (fox demons) have infected the children of the town, and death and destruction is everywhere. Can the friends work together to save each other, and save their town, before it's too late? Enemies old, new and unexpected bar their way.
While I am enjoying the continuing kitsune plot line in the books, this particular volume seemed to move a little slower than the others. At times I felt like I was plodding through it. On the other hand, both Damon and Elena face their personal inner struggles, as they have done throughout the books. For Damon, the struggle between his darker side and his innocent inner child rages on. For Elena, her heart beats with love for both Stefan and Damon, and she can no longer deny her true feelings. I enjoyed reading the continuing story line but hope the next book will pick up the pace again.

Another great book from a good series. Elena and her friends are fighting the kitsunes Misao and Shinichi in a desperate attempt to save what's left of Fell's Church, including another travel into the Dark Dimensions. The story contained several twist and turns I never for the life of me could have foreseen; with long kept secrets coming out into the light and several struggles with surprising outcomes. Not to forget the mind-blowing ending which will make your heart sink while neatly tying up all the loose ends, circling back to the very beginning. All in all: if you like the Vampire Diaries books, and have read the ones leading up to this one, I can almost guarantee you won't be disappointed :D
To be perfectly honest I thought this book was slightly boring in comparison to the previous ones.
There were a few moments the had me really interested and filled with suspense but the characters ere pretty annoying for me in this book. Especially Stefan and Bonnie..
