These books are a little bit darker than many other cozy mysteries because of the family dynamics and murder motives, but that actually makes me enjoy them more, probably.  It's also so gratifying to see a Filipino-American family, food, Tagalog, good (closeness), and bad (chismis, judgement,e tc) portrayed in a popular novel.  I also like the way in which the younger generation is portrayed as breaking some of the negative cycles of the previous generation, yet balancing it with staying close with their family members and culture.

Reading this series in this past year gives me so much comfort. Not only is it a perfect cozy mystery, but this also give me comfort from seeing a filipino protagonist interacting with her filipino family and cooking the filipino food I grew up with. Are these the best books in the world? No, but I always have a good time reading this series and following a long with the mysteries. I also love that this book in this series discusses the downfall for "chisme" or gossip. I'll always read this series once the next book comes out!
