Aanrader!
Pretty disappointing read.
After reading this I pretty much came to the conclusion I learned nothing.
Pros.
- There are some nice jokes and the author doesn't takes himself all too seriously.
- It's an incentive to live a more present, cosy and meaningful life.
Cons.
- There is nothing really original to the whole concept of hygge. Differences with similar concepts around the world are arbitrary.
- A lot of joy is apparently to be found in the slaughter of animals. Since I think 25% of the book is about eating animals. And you are supposed to feel happiness when you see a whole pig being roasted in Kopenhagen. I can't imagine that torture is part of hygge.
- The science is flawed. For example he only tells half the story about oxytocin. Not the part that it is next to creating closeness to the group it's also responsible to create distance from others (those that are not part). Telling half truths is not scientific at all.

Tis the season, afterall...I'm totally down with the candlelight, chocolate, and snuggling with a book, but less crazy about the grog, pickled herring or pig cheek stew.
