A refreshing reminder to take life one day at a time, seek out comforts, and allow yourself to delve into the concept of hygge. Closeness with loved ones, comfort of slow foods, and a disconnection from the technology and constant input of social media to gain further contentment from life. This book was clearly laid out, simply organized, and balanced well between adequate details and a simplicity of content.
I thought this was an interesting peek into Danish culture, as well as an easy, fun read. There were definitely times it felt a tad cliche or “cutesy,” but the author’s voice was friendly and earnest. I enjoyed the fact that he included recipes and even a craft. Most of the book was just a relaxing brain break that I enjoyed. The last chapter was a bit heavier, focused on the research and asking yourself difficult questions that definitely don’t feel hyggelig in the moment. Overall, it was a pleasant “snack” read that I’m glad I borrowed from my local library. I’m not sure if I’ll ever return to it, we’ll see, but I’d still recommend it.
Ugh, what can I say. I find NOTHING hygge about suffering – woolen socks, reindeer hides and eating animal flesh – but I tried really hard not to focus on that... and there is a lot of that in this book.
Other than that, a quick and easy read, repetitive and kind of common sense.
I love hygge and I’ll just do it my way, you know, yes to all the cosiness but without the suffering of other beings.

I finally jumped on the hygge train. This was a quick, interesting read that definitely helped expand my knowledge on the practice of hygge— I feel like it reads more in the style of a guide or brochure rather than an instructional book and it felt redundant and repetitive in many places, but it was intriguing all the same. Definitely looking to include some of these practices in my own day-to-day.
A delightful little book with practical tips on improving your sense of well-being and contentment. There are many other things that go into making Denmark one of the happiest countries in the world, but here's what you can do, regardless of where you live.

Live slowly, enjoy the simple pleasures of good friends along with food and drink in the company of one's own home. Don't be flashy. And use lots of candles.
