Guilt ferrets forever! It really just doesn't get better than this series. Hilarity and seriousness at its finest.

4.5 stars

Atticus, Granuaile and Owen are trying to wrap up loose ends. Atticus is still trying to finish the war with the vampires (and filling in a personal historical gap for us), Granuaile has her own issues to deal with, and Owen is off starting a 21st century life in the company of the werewolves as each tries to find a new identity as part of a joint druidic venture.

The narration continues to alternate between the three of them, and it's obvious which one you're following if you've read the previous books - they all have a very different turn of phrase - even while you follow them all over various planes. Your knowledge of mythology and geographical will be expanded still further, all while the plot races towards the end. It's compulsive reading, will stand up to re-reads... in short, everything you've come to expect from Kevin Hearne!

Disclaimer: I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

So, apparently there was a novella between this book and the last book. And that novella would have been helpful to have read, because it directly impacts part of this book's storyline. I didn't read it, but I didn't struggle too much to read between the lines about what I had missed. However, it was still annoying. So maybe don't do what I did, and go read that novella before reading this one.

With that said, this was another nice addition to this solid series. I had a few quibbles with part of Granuaile's storyline, but mostly I really enjoyed this. Oberon the talking dog will always good a special place in my book reader's heart.

Also, seriously consider only doing the audiobooks for this series. It's much easier to hear the names of various gods/deitys from other cultures than it is to try to read them.

I was really looking forward to this book so much but was a little let down by it. I felt like there was a lot of filler in this book and it didn't really stand alone but I guess it is book 8 in a series so there's that... It was only the last couple of chapters that the vampires were even dealt with. It felt long winded overall and then rushed at the end.
I still enjoy this series a lot. Atticus is entertaining and goofy, Owen is funny and totally freaking annoying in a good way, and Granuaille is independent and strong. Also I liked the fact that the three characters did their own thing and then came together at the end, I like that Granuaille doesn't just follow Atticus around and that she has her own goals and ambitions.
This series is great in its own right, I have read/listened to all eight books this year and have enjoyed it a lot.

I'm actually still really annoyed I can't read the story before this book because it's only an ebook. But this was due back to the library do I read it and enjoyed it anyway.

Have I mentioned the talking dog in this series? We get a second talking dog!

This was good, and I just love Hearne's world building. But I felt like it lacked the fun of the earlier books, and I wished Atticus and Granuaile had spent more time together.
