Not the book I was expecting, which is one of the reasons I keep coming back to Kevin Hearne with such delight. The three way split on the narrative is very effective, not least because they are all doing such different things over the course of the book. I appreciate how the druids are growing as characters, and that Atticus is finally starting to sort things out rather than cause more chaos -- the books tend to be one long string of reactions -- I have hope for him that this might change. Still clever, still a mile a minute, still kick-ass.

It's an almost quiet day of work for our druids in "Staked". Yes, a lot of things happen and things die, but it makes me wonder what's the final book gonna be about.

2.5. The inclusion now of three view points is too many. The story, although satisfying in the end, was jumbled between the three with many of the bits just not useful (multiple "bath time" stories that did nothing but fill space.
Not bad, not great.

Ready for more. Loved the resolutions in this one. Sad for the losses. Owen was great. G and Atticus—dying for more with them. But I know G has some growing to do.
What more can I say about Kevin Hearne than I have said before. He is one of the really, undiscovered writers out there that has a following, but nowhere near the following he should have. He should be a household name in the fantasy genre. maybe after his massive, epic fantasy debuts later this year he will be.
This is the 8th novel in the Iron Druid series. It is full of action and the humor that Hearne employs to good use. Picking up where #7 left off, there is still the small matter of Atticus vs. the vampires, mainly the ancient, Theophilus, who was responsible for the massacre of most of the druids during Roman times.
In Staked, the narrative is divided between, Granuaile, Owen and Atticus. Each are pursuing their own courses and passions. For Granuaile, it is her crusade to help Gaia (Earth) by delivering a blow to her gas and oil tycoon of a stepfather, which also is very personal for her. Owen wants to begin his own grove, training a new generation of druids to swell their ranks from the current 3 to many. many more. As for Atticus, the title of the book speaks for itself. But, in the end they all get together for the final showdown which would be cinematic magic.
As with all of the Iron Druid books, there is a great amount of banter between Atticus and his wolfhound, Oberon as well as interesting looks into what we all thought was just mythology, but in reality lives right under our noses. Yes, Gods, Druids, vampires, werewolves, trolls and the fae court are all alive and well and just so much fun.
Do yourself a favor. Pick up Hounded and get going. You will not be sorry.

The ending was fabulous, and stays true to Hearne's writing style. The middle section of the book is my only compliant because Atticus and Granule do not reunite until the very end. Their interactions in the story are part of what makes the later half of the series so great.
I am really looking forward to the final book in the series.
Iron Druid has been one of my favorite series, but Staked is without a doubt the most disappointing. It read like Hearne finally released the book out of obligation, rather than because he had a good story to tell. I think the series may have run its course.
