I need to re-listen or physicall read this. I tlgot bored by the end if it, but I was captivated at the beginning. The narrator of Louie's chapters was a bit droaning. I liked the narrator for Noemi though. Howeve , so may chapters are read from Louie's perspective. I tuned him oit a lot unconsciously, so i missed some stuff plot wise, I'm sure. I really like the premise so I'll hopefully give a better score upon revisiting.

Noemi is a very complicated character who is ruled by the grief of losing her boyfriend and the strange things that are happening in her community. Her uncle's reappearance in her life shakes things up a bit as well and adds to the story. My favorite parts of the book were how people were relating to each other and trying their best to hide their secrets until it couldn't be concealed anymore.

Liked how they talked about Indigenous community struggles without it being the main focus of the book. Was well integrated into the plot. POV switching was also interesting. Kind of got a little predictable towards the end, with a wonky section, but the ending was heartfelt. Wholesome ending to a darker book. Thought it would make a really good limited series.

I went into this expecting something terrifying, and that's just not what this is going for. It's creepy, and it's dark, and at times heartbreaking, but it takes it's time to tell the story and isn't going for cheap scares. Love that it reclaims the Indian burial ground trope.
