"Hey, the cover scene happened at about
15-20%
of the book, that's neat"
I said, clueless, not knowing I was about to read the (so far, at least) darkest book in the series.

The way I gasped at the whole second backstory it's almost embarrassing. It does only make me ever more interested in whatever is going to happen in the present and why in the fuck is White No-face so obsessed over Xie Lian in particular.

That said, the darkness of it all almost made me forget that
they confessed as best as they could without saying the exact words. It's canon now. My life is in jumbles right now, I believe in love again.

I'm still flabbergasted, tho.
He really went full Joker in the past.
Holy shit. What the fuck.

Have you ever read anything and just felt so much emotion you just couldn't handle it? Well I'll tell you what my eyes couldn't because I sobbed, sobbed, sobbed and sobbed some more.

It took just one, that was all it took. This line killed me, this entire novel killed me.

I think this would be my favorite novel of the series so far just becuase we learned so much about Xie Lian(we got to see him not being the pure goody that he is) and learned more about Hua Cheng as well.

There is a lot of questions that I am finding myself having, and I got some answers.(Xie Lian saying he regrets his 2nd ascension, now I understand why.)

def one of the best in this whole story. Xie Lian's traumatic past, White No-face and the depth that Hua Cheng has gone and will go for his one and only... if you love pain, this is for you.

Oh Xie Lian and Hua Cheng

I'm not rating this as highly as I've rated other volumes because the story has lost some of that momentum for me that made it so great...

Most of this volume is spent in the past, right after poor Xie lost his godhood and Xianle fell. The last 100 or so pages are shocking for sure and VERY sad

It does feel like we are right on the precipice of the finale and I'm excited and nervous at the same time

Oh, man. I thought the last Xie Lian backstory arc was rough. Now, rather than watching him in his glory, we watch him truly fallen from grace. Slowly, bit by bit, he loses his closest friends and then himself. And there's nothing anyone can do about it. I did love seeing more backstory behind Hua Cheng though - he's truly been with Xie Lian through it all. Their love isn't just their relationship, it's Hua Cheng believing in Xie Lian even when LITERALLY no one else did. God, MXTX ripped my heart out with this one.
