Gah! Parts of this book were a SOLID 5 stars. However, because this book was wrapping things up AND focusing on two couples (Mad & Sara + Zack & Liz) it got bogged down. I barely ever say this, but it either needed to be longer or there needed to be a “Book 4.5” novella where they handled a few things in order to have a “cleaner” Book 5.

Because the authors totally tanked this book with Zack’s (and Roman’s) treatment of Liz and not giving enough time for proper groveling and forgiveness. Because beautiful, strong, smart, steely Liz freakin’ says, “Oh OK, you’re forgiven” after learning that Zack has thought the worst of her for WEEKS and continues to sleep with her. Including, but not limited to thinking she’s committed treason and helped an assassin make an attempt on Zack’s life. AND when the whole situation comes to a head he says some really nasty things to her. This is AFTER she already forgave him for a massive break of trust at the beginning of the book (that started in Book 4). She yells at Roman for all of 3 minutes and immediately agrees to marry Zack. Nope. No. Uh-uh.

Another strike is that the ending is fast paced and kind of a mind bending info dump that also could have used more finesse. It’s like they got tired of writing the story and just threw down a bunch of Russian operatives, plots, and explained that the KGB wouldn’t go after anyone anymore because they discredited one guy. What? The KGB literally spent DECADES and 100’s people and they’re just walking away because #reasons.

The epilogue was adorable, but not enough to forgive the abandonment of Liz’s nature from the entire series.

Maddox Crawford is back from the dead!! Well, okay, if you read Smoke and Sin, you already know about that little mic drop, but you need to buckle up and prepare for everything that it means by having Mad back from the dead. This is HUGE and not only integral to the storyline, but Mad is also one of the most emotionally touching characters I can remember reading, possibly ever.

If you are just catching wind of all things Perfect Gentlemanly, go back, start from the beginning and prepare for a fantastic, suspenseful, full of conspiracy theories ride.  You have to read this series in order. Sorry, but also not sorry, because this series is AMAZING!!

At the Pleasure of the President is not just the end of a long journey for the Perfect Gentlemen, but it is the interwoven storylines of Zack Hayes/Liz Matthews and Mad Crawford/Sara Bond. Always close by are other Perfect Gentlemen and their significant others so you are constantly getting splashes of how they are doing. This finale is a mixture of BAM!! OMG!! and WOW!!

We have finally reached the pinnacle where the Russians are ready to make their move. They have been playing a very long game dating back for decades, maneuvering people into place to get whom they want into the White House. What happens now....well, read and find out. I won't give up any spoilers to this conspiracy theory. (It's so good).

However, in the game of love...where lies, deceit, and murder are already in play, whom do you trust? Your heart? Your friends? Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Can love be restored when trust is broken?

I was in tears, and more tears, and then more tears over and over again. For a suspenseful novel, this book ripped me apart. Everytime Mad was on the page I was surrounded by tissues. Shayla and Lexi wrote a billionaire playboy that you will empathize with.
What??
I know I don't have billions of dollars lying around, so that isn't my point, Mad is self-deprecating, has all the best intentions, loves fiercely and a lot of times shows that love in the worst possible way, but he's so loyal. I just wanted to cuddle him. Oh, all the tissues. I love his fictional self so much.

Now, the women of Perfect Gentleman; The badass, strong, probably could have saved the day sooner if their men had given them the information from day one-women. Not only do they complete the men they have found perfectly, but the eloquence, ferocious strength is so admirable, I wish they were a part of my posse. Shayla and Lexi write these brilliant women who don't shrink from danger, but also know where their strengths lay. We could learn a lot from the blueprints that these women give us to follow. Thank you Shayla and Lexi.

So, again, with no spoilers, because seriously, this book has so much and you need to experience it all, but it's good. REALLY GOOD!!

From jaw dropping suspense, to the hottest of passion, to a conspiracy that puts readers on the edge of their seats, Shayla Black and Lexi Blake deliver an epic conclusion to the Perfect Gentlemen Series with At the Pleasure of the President.

Zachary Hayes truly has the weight of the free world on his shoulders. Being President has it advantages and its disadvantages. For having the kind of power that he does, the one thing his heart desires is standing within an arms grasp and he can’t have her. Even though Zach is the President, he’s still a man. Hard headed and stubborn, with so much intensity and being as sexy as he is makes it hard for a woman to not go crazy. Zach’s heart is huge and he believes his Intentions are best but being who he is, in the predicament that he’s in, he allows birds of a feather to influence what the sensible decisions should really be. Zach is as smooth as the scotch he likes to indulge in. He knows how to get what he what and go for it. Even if he has to go a roundabout way to get it. There were so many moments that I felt so much for Zack and then I wanted to shake the crap out of him because he couldn’t seem to get his head and his heart together. In the end he made the right choice.

Elizabeth is a southern spit fire of a woman. Beauty and grace, yet she can stomp down anyone with charm and style. A woman who has stepped up beyond her job title, put her heart to the side, then on the line. Politic she can handle, the craziness that Zach’s life has thrown at her is making Liz’s head spin. Elizabeth made her mark from the moment she hit the page in the very first book of the Perfect Gentleman Series. She takes no crap, is not afraid to speak her mind and is just fun. I love the fact that she gives all these high-powered man a run for their money. Liz is a true sister in every sense of the word.

What an amazing book! At the Pleasure of the President answers all the lingering questions I had from the previous books in the series and gives not just one but two HEAs. The story is utterly twisted and wonderfully unique. The Perfect Gentleman Series is truly some amazing and creative writing. The series was able to captivate, entertain and make you think. Each book is a piece of a giant puzzle that you don’t even realize how invested you have become until you were reading the final chapters of the last book. The biggest props I can give to both Shayla and Lexi for creating a story so intricate and evolving while giving romance readers what they want in their reads. At the Pleasure of the President is not only a great book, it's a highly intricate piece of art.

The Perfect Gentleman Series is one of the most intricate, captivating and intense plots I’ve every had the enjoyment of getting caught up in.

This was an amazing conclusion to this series. Everything was wrapped up in a way that was completely satisfactory. Zack and Liz made an amazing couple, even when Zackh was being a dope and listening to Roman's paranoia. The plot that moves through the entire series is solved and this book begins immediately where the previous book left off. If you haven't read the rest of this series, then this book won't make sense. Lexi Blake & Shayla Black wove together a world that will suck you in and take you for one heck of a ride. I HIGHLY recommend this book and the entire series. Can't encourage reading this series enough.

This book is everything the reader has been waiting for and so much more. All of the questions will be answered and all of the Perfect Gentlemen get what they so rightly deserve. With so much emotion and so much angst the story locks you in from the first few pages and you will not be able to put it down. I held my breath for chapters and screamed at my Kindle for others. Shayla Black and Lexi Blake have created characters and a storyline that deserve more than 5 stars. You will never expect some of twists and turns but in the end you will be in awe. I am so sorry to see this series end but it will be one that I will re-read numerous times.

A satisfying conclusion to the overall storyline

I picked up this series because I love Lexi Blake and some of the characters from this series are mentioned in her Masters & Mercenaries series. To be honest, it wasn't totally what I expected. Lexi does a FABULOUS job of meshing romance with suspense and I expected the same in this series... but what I got was a great mystery that I'm desperate to solve and some romance on the side. So this isn't a bad series but it's not at the quality that I expect and love from Lexi Blake.
It's worth reading for the mystery/suspense component - just don't expect the same level of romance in terms of the couples really growing (together and as a person) and their relationship being just as important as the suspense plotline.

I did like how the overall storyline wrapped up but this book was the weakest in terms of the relationship between Liz and Zack.

At the Pleasure of the President
4 Stars

The conspiracy plot comes to a head as President Zack Hayes must confront the ghosts of his past and determine whether he can trust the only woman he has ever loved.

This final installment in the series provides a satisfying ending to the engrossing mystery plot that has been developing from the first book, and the last few chapters are intense and exciting with some final surprising twists and turns.

Nevertheless, similar to the romances of the other Perfect Gentlemen, Zack and Liz's relationship is undermined by his questionable treatment of her. Despite their excellent chemistry, Zack's behavior leaves much to be desired and Liz is far too forgiving.

The secondary romance between
SpoilerMad and Sara
is very sweet and he more than makes up for his cruel actions. Of all the heroes in the series, he works the hardest to get back into her good graces and he definitely gives the best grovel :)

Overall, this is series is well worth the read for the brilliant plot, and even though the heroes are a pack of alpha jerks at times, the HEAs are very entertaining.
