Still my favourite Karen Rose book (and I've read all of them). Fab plotting and an interesting plot twist. Love Kristen, she's such a fabulous competent woman, who has a past but picked herself up to get on with life. And who doesn't love Abe and the Reagans.
A book where you think you'd really like to be friends with the hero and heroine.
I'd love to read Rachel's story one day. I hope Rose goes back to Chicago for the younger characters.

Like the previous Karen Rose book I read, I enjoyed the romance here as well, and I loved the suspense, especially towards the end. I can appreciate how the heroine, Kristen had the strength and maturity to confess about her past. It's not one of the books where the protagonist keeps her own secrets to herself for quite some time only for the truth blow up in their faces.
Abe - I love how he was patient and protective, and also accepting of Kristen's past.
While I really liked this one, I realise that both in this book and the first one feature heroines with a dark, painful past. It adds depth to a character, but I can't help but feel it becomes predictable in the sense that one can expect a scarred heroine that has low self esteem and thinks she isn't really capable of making the male lead happy. One does not need to be burdened with a painful past to be an interesting and likeable character. Is it not enough to empathise with a protagonist when she's being stalked by a reporter, is threathened by an enraged father, and the "dearest Kristen" of a killer on the loose?
That being said, I enjoyed this book. There's a HEA, of course. All the problems are resolved, and everything just falls into place. Exactly how I like my romantic suspense reads. :)

I enjoyed reading this, not the best thriller ever, not the worst. At times it's a little dated (which makes sense, it's not a new book). The reveal was no surprise, but there were enough things happening to keep me interested in the story.

my comfort books are now serial killer romantic suspense books. idk how to process this.
These books are freaking intense - but I like them. Super scary and all the characters so far have had some awful things happen to them in the past.
This particular book was a bit depressing in some ways with a vigilante killing criminals and their representation after failing victims in the criminal justice system. The heroine is a traumatized prosecutor and the hero is a heart-broken detective. I mean heavy.stuff. I enjoyed it but had to take some breaks - I'm more a fantasy, or whimsical romance gal. I do like mysteries but more on the cozy side. These feel on the grim side of real, but the story is well done and I will definitely keep reading.

Fairly intriguing mystery. A little too much obvious cheesy romance for my tastes.
