"I’m glad I get to heal with someone who knows how it feels to be torn apart"
Incredibly sweet and romantic.
I've never been one to complain about spice, but sometimes less is more. That's my only comment on this novel. Amazing chemistry and the build felt real and addicting.

This is what I love in a rivals-to-lovers romance. They have an actual rivalry, but it's not one-sided and based on something ridiculous. Even after they get together, they still keep their competitiveness and teasing. Each of them brings out the best in each other and we see that on page in their actions, not just stated. This makes it so much more satisfying to root for their relationship, because they never lose that spark between them.

I also think this might be the healthiest couple in any romance book I've read ever - they have fights and piss each other off, but they also COMMUNICATE. And not just a simple apology after a fight: it's actual introspective and empathetic communication where they each acknowledge the other's feelings and make realistic steps to do better. Also the sex scenes were hot.

The comic stuff...it's not exactly realistic to the real world 100% but you know what - it's fine. This is the world I WISH existed for comic artists where they work for a company that respects them and pays them a living wage. For that reason - this book doesn't really touch on what it's like to be a black woman writing comics in our real world...but that's ok! I think the setting is extremely intentional, so the interpersonal struggles can be mostly about the art itself and physical stress, not the added stress of ingrained racism and sexism baked into the publishing industry and particularly prevalent in the comics world. If you're looking for a real world equivalent to the company in this book it doesn't exist, but the closest is a mashup of indie publishers, Image, and Milestone Media - but with the prestige of DC/Marvel. And then the online comic website is like Webtoon if they actually cared about their creators.
