pacing and writing were so good! it wasn’t too fast, and all of the details force you to take in the little scenes and absorb all the nature. i like how all the stories tie together and the ending was so good

I really liked the characters...Kingsolver is so good about weaving a good background for each one. I really loved the way the underlying ecological themes as well...that's something that I didn't find in her other books, which mostly focused on social issues. I thought the ending was a little weak though.

I had this on my to-read list for at least a year. It never called to me. I don't know why I decided today's the day, but it was a great decision.

Zebulon County itself is a very important character in this book. Its citizens, both human and animal, were fascinating--I found myself rooting for Lusa. Kingsolver's writing about nature is beautiful, leaving me longing to be outside more. Really outside, not my backyard.

Absolutely stunning. Easily her best novel, in my estimation. I read this book in one long gulp when i first discovered it, and twice since. its reflections on the nature of our relationship with predators, and our ecology as a whole, are profound.

Barbara Kingsolver is one of my favorite authors. I love how her writing can make me feel and I feel like her work always give me a reason for reflection. A story that really puts into perspective the connectedness of all forms of life.

Really good read. The development of each character is intense. Love how it all comes together at the end.

A story of of rural West Virginia with insiders - outsiders, ecology, native introduced plants, stewardship versus use by man. A god story with a variety of compelling characters.
