the first half of this book draaaaaaagged and then it picked up which was good. once again xavier was the crowning jewel of this book
also i greatly dislike jake as a character. obvs he’s there just fucking shit up for no reason but his motivation as a character was soooo convoluted, like he was obsessed with bethany from the very beginning for literally no reason. idk if it’ll just finally be revealed in the last one or whatever but it’s baffling to me that this demon prince is so obsessed with this specific angel
it’s a pointless love triangle too cause she’s so in love with xavier, which i do like. she never wavers like other female protagonists in a love triangle lol

I’ve been reading as much angel fantasy as I can get my hands on. I’ve said before that for the story to really take flight (yes, that pun was intended) there needs to be a religious component. Alexandra Adornetto’s second book in the Halo trilogy was a very exciting read. There is a lot of mushy love between Bethany and Xavier in the beginning, but the story really gets going when Jake Throne tricks Bethany and kidnaps her into Hades aka Hell! The author creates a vivid and frightening underworld that draws on legend with plenty of creative modern twists. Some souls are destined to club forever. They cannot stop dancing. The demons that look beautiful on the outside just barely hide the hideous disfigurement of their true selves. Jake hopes to make Bethany his bride. We find out quickly that for Jake this is not just about starting a war with Heaven, he truly loves Bethany and wants her to accept him and choose to love him back. Back on earth, Bethany’s siblings, Gabriel and Ivy, along with Xavier try to figure out how to rescue her. Both angels are tied to whatever the Heavenly Father has planned. He sends word through the magnificent archangel, Michael. The plan is cryptic and involves saving more souls along the way. The book is about sacrifice and what you would give up for the ones you love the most much more than just a simple teen love story. Heaven’s rules are complicated. Bethany often wonders if she will be left in Hell. Is someone watching over her? Will she ever see Xavier or her siblings again? The ending will make you dying to find out what happens next. I’m hoping to see as vivid as description about Heaven and she created for Hell. The third book in the trilogy, Heaven, will be published sometime in 2012.

Hades wasn't that bad of a book but some names and some characters just pushed me over the edge.
Bethany is an angel that can exhibit human characteristics. She oogles over her boyfriend Xavier Woods to the point where she can basically take over his shadow. The story begins when Beth is kidnapped by and taken on a motorcycle ride to Hell and is trapped with noway out but to rely on her siblings and human love.
Okay, Bethany just pisses me off completely. She is basically on par with Bella Swan. This book just completely overlaps with Twilight in the "annoying heroine" characteristic and the "THE BOYFRIEND IS THE AIR I BREATHE WITHOUT HIM I CAN'T LIVE" reformation. It's just horrible and Adornetto milks Beth for everything she's worth.
And for the record, I never took this book seriously. For one, calling the mighty Lucifer himself "Bid Daddy" it just irked me the whole way through. How am I suppose to take Hell seriously if they call their demon overlord Bid Daddy? I JUST CAN'T! That's like putting Mike Myers in the Passion of the Christ, YOU CAN'T DO IT, IT DOESN'T WORK.
And basically every character has the personality of cardboard. You have the stupid best friend who gets all the guys because of her looks. The doting boyfriend who is oblivious for the most part and too corny for my standards. The siblings Gabe and Ivy were the only two characters that I could really stomach in this book. Though they weren't the best put together characters *due to the lack of "human emotions because they're angels"* they still make the cardboard cutout character list.
Twilight fans may consume this book with their love of shitty put together characters and overpowering paranormal love story, but I must warn the common public... It's stupid beyond belief. The whole "Big Daddy" thing just really pisses me off for the most part. If you don't mind losing some brain cells, be my guest, read this book. Other wise, it's not worth your time. I just lost hours that I will never be able to get back :/

2.5 stars
While the whole concept of an angel being kidnapped and held captive in Hell was interesting, I can't say as much for some of the characters. Beth bothered me a lot; she's compassionate but her decisions were so rash and there were moments where she said she shouldn't be doing something, she ends up doing it the next. Also, I don't know if it was simply because we were seeing him through Beth's eyes, but where on earth were Xavier's flaws? He seems way to perfect, an obnoxious Gary Stu. In addition to the one-sided characters, I felt myself getting bored at times by the needless descriptions of scenery. The one point that could've been an excellent climax practically took up one sentence. Character and scenery rant over, Adornetto does actually have an intriguing concept for a trilogy, what with angels, demons, and a war between Heaven and Hell. The ending actually left me interested enough to want to read the final installment... I understand that she's only nineteen, but still--Christopher Paolini published Eragon when he was nineteen, and there's a world of difference between the two novels.

Spoiler
You'd think she'd learn after being tricked onto the motorcycle by Jake, but no--he effortlessly tricks her again into admitting that she knows exactly what's going on with Xavier, Gabriel, and Ivy because she's been projecting.
y pensé q no se podía poner peor despues del primer libro.... i was so wrong
I really liked Halo when I read it a couple of years ago, but just a few pages into Hades and I'm wondering if I would feel the same way today.
Tastes change, of course, but I was shocked when only a few pages into the book Bethany laughed with us mere mortals about a kegger gone wrong. She's an angel! She's suppose to be holy. So besides the odd characterization, the dialogue felt stilted and the re-capping was slightly mind-numbing.
So did you feel Hades was an appropriate sequel to Halo, or do you feel a little jilted by book two?
