I will be completely honest, I have no recollection of what happened in the first book except for their relationship and how much it annoyed me that they were so into each other. It really made me mad. Also the comments about humans being oh so great, kind of annoyed me too. I didn't like Jack, he didn't really have any redeemable qualities, he wasn't that great, I was all for Xander from the beginning.
This book isn’t as good as I had remembered it being. While yes, this book is based around angels and the idea that god is real, the middle gets ridiculously preachy, so if that’s not your thing this series may not be for you. But as far as YA Christian books go, this one is really good! With purity culture currently starting to be dismantled, this book shows its age there. It was published around 10 years ago, and society has since progressed further than what is here, so that also needs to be taken into consideration.
The follow-up to Halo, which I loved, started innocently enough. It moved right along getting into the heart of the matter and arriving in Hell in no time. Most of the story involved Bethany and Jake – seeing as how they were in hell throughout the majority of this story. I think that is where it fell short for me. There is so much that could be done when writing about Hell and while there were a few liberties taken with what hell was actually like – we got to see so little of it that it just wasn’t enough to hold my interest. Basically a hotel and a few nightclubs, of course there was the vast nothingness – but what about all the other levels of Hell – those seemed like they would have been more interesting. Maybe a tour?
I love scenes involving Gabriel, Ivy, and Xavier – they were my favorites in the first book as well. There just aren’t enough of them in this book. Jake’s reasoning for bringing Beth to Hell fell short of my expectations as well. If you are helping to rule Hell – you should be a complete bad ass…Jake wasn’t. If there is more to come from this series I probably won’t seek it out, but might continue reading if it falls into my lap.

What a disappointment. Horrible, ending. It was just a mix of boy loves girl blah blah. Halo was so much better.
A better book than I had expected but I can't stand the main character. She is so infuriating
I really enjoyed the next chapter of this series. I'm glad I didn't let the close-minded reviews keep me from reading it! I love how passionate the love story is. I also really enjoyed the different views on Hell, and it's inner workings. I liked the humor (Big Daddy), it kept it from getting to intense. The only complaint I have is the drop-off ending, and not having a clue when book 3 will be out.
*SCREAMS*

I liked this book, te plot and the characters were good :) I just got annoyed by the ending...dunno why.
I have to admit that this book was better than the first. Granted, my expectations were much lower when I started reading this one. There just seemed to be more action and less buildup (which is good for a sequel).
There are several things that bugged me about this book. Everything was so predictable. It just didn’t seem like there was any mystery to it at all. The foreshadowing was done in such a blunt way that it would give away too much.
What is this girl’s obsession with roses? Rose colored this. Rosebud that. Seriously, there are other flowers. Hell, there are even other things that you could use for comparisons!
SPOILERS AHEAD:
I’m very confused as to the mythology behind this. What Bible is being used here?
I may be wrong, but I’m fairy certain that “an angel being dragged into hell” is not one of the signs of the apocalypse. Someone PLEASE let me know if there is some reference to this at all.
Also, Lucifer says that he’s trapped in hell and cannot get to Earth. When Satan was cast out of Heaven, he was cast out onto the Earth (Isaiah 14:12-14, Revelation 12:9-12). So why did Satan say that he couldn’t leave hell? The Bible states that he roams the earth (1 Peter 5:8). However there is mention of Satan being bound in the abyss (Revelation 20:1-3), but that is supposed to take place after the events in the sealed book (Revelation 6-9) and before judgment (Revelation 20:11-15). So this means that in this books universe, all of the signs of the end of the world have already occurred. Why is God just starting his mission to improve the Earth?
Say what you want, but this is all coming from an atheist who has probably read more of the Bible than most modern day “Christians.”

Somewhere between 3.5 & 4 because the first 97ish pages were so hard, but it past my 100pg rule so I kept going.
I'll add the next one to my to-reads shelf though.
