Hades

When the book opened I really thought it was going to break the YA trilogy mould, and that it was really going to pick up. I wanted the very obvious “trick” with the motorcycle to turn into an amazing twist, but that fell through. I was really hoping that after spending so much time in living in Hades, that Beth would have lost hope, and would have lost herself - that she wouldn’t have left Jake willingly - and that Xavier would have had to have done something to unbreak her. I really love Alexandra’s writing - but I really wish it had been more.

Once I got into it I found it to be an interesting read, don't think I'm going to read the last one though.

Really good, I can't wait for Heaven!

Okay, I tried to give this one a chance. Alexandra Adornetto is a very nice person on Twitter and when you go to see her at book signings, I'll give her that. I think I did give this one a chance. But, I saw a lot of holes in the book that, in the end, sort of ruined it for me, like
Spoiler Bethanny gets on a motorcycle with Jake, and can't get off. Isn't she an angel with wings? She could have let go, expanded her wings and flown off and outsmarted him? Alas, she couldn't. It's like when she was cornered by some bad boys at school and Xavier suddenly had to save her in Halo. Sigh. In the end, she and Xavier were going to get married. I thought in book 1 it was cemented into the series that she couldn't have sex with a human because she was an angel--EVER. That crossed over into the break in canon/mythology of the series and destruction of an already established universe that was Breaking Dawn. Then, the drinking from the river and being able to see what was going on in her family's lives back on Earth was definitely a plot device and the trouble with writing in 1st person. But that's why writing is such an endeavor, especially when trying to sell a series.

Adnornetto definitely used her Catholic understanding of the universe to write this novel again. I'm not saying that's wrong. That's how she understands God, Heaven and Hell and it's important to write what you know. I think it was brave to write a book/book series that bordered on how she felt about God and Heaven, which is hard to do in YA without being accused of trying to preach your own personal beliefs. You could accuse Adornetto of that, but I won't. A lot of people have complained about how she's confused Hell and Hades for the same place and how that's wrong and blah blah blah, but I'm Orthodox Christian and we refer to Hell as "Hades" in our English translation of our vesper services, so I let that nit-picky argument go. Some people just want to hate on a genre (like Paranormal Romance) because they hated the most popular book in said genre, but I don't. I like the YA Paranormal Romance genre, but I'm very critical of it at the same time. Doesn't mean it's throw-away, people.

In the end, the same questions arose as when I read the 1st book. I felt like she was trying to answer/respond to all the negative reviews from Halo and show how they were wrong. I guess it's true when they say not to worry about your non-professional reviews when you write a book.

Will I read Heaven? Yes, I will just to finish the series out.

⭐️ = Good story
⭐️ = Love the people
⭐️⭐️ = Personal feeling!

I liked it, but not as much as i liked the first. I never like the ones where the couple is separated as i do the initial falling in love book. It was still good, though

I really liked this book I cant say i liked it as much as the first one though. And I cant wait for the next book to come out!! So Beth was takin to Hades this time and it was Xavier fighting to keep their relationship together. Bethany really wasnt harmed in Hades becuz she was still an angel of God. Jake had tricked her into getting on a motorcycle with him and he took her into Hades to be his bride. They showed a different side of Jake in this boook that I really liked, it almost made you feel bad for him but not completely. Bethany gave up a few times in the book and I didt like that part of her, I wanted to see more strength from her. And I cant believe Alexandra Adornetto just left us hanging at the end with Beth and Xavier. I cried, I laugher and I got angry but it was all me being emotionally involved in the book.

I didn't necessarily hate the first book in this series, even though it wasn't the greatest it was still a cute idea. This was... not good, to say the least without spoilers. I will not be reading the third book.

While this book does have excellent potential, I was disheartened to learn that the efforts to free Tucker and Hanna were ignored, left to suffer in Hades, with only a few seconds of sadness from Beth. We were given back stories as to why they ended up there because of Jake, yet were completely disregarded for their efforts in keeping Beth sane and helping her communicate with her loved ones back on Earth. Considering this is a YA novel and written when the author was merely a teenager, I give this a four-star rating based on her creativity and the twisted journey us readers were led to believe alongside Beth that Jake was actually changing.
