I guess if you play the really long game, sometimes it works out in the end

Goodness, I quite loved this book. Took me a while to read it though, as with all books lately, but this was incredible and so multi-faceted and layered with rich meaning and, also, of course, deceptions. Marquez tackles a plethora of subjects and styles, I don't want to really give analysis or a review, but this was a great read.

This was recommended by a friend, who said it was her favorite book and she’s reread it 6 or 7 times.

I was always cautious because I knew it was translated from Spanish - and although I do believe there may have been some things lost in translation - some of the English translations helped me understand how beautiful the Spanish language can be.

At times, I did get a little lost because the novel moves between different characters during different periods of time - but it was easy to get caught up with the Audible version.

But at the end of the day - Love at the Time of Cholera is a beautiful, expansive story of love between two people - and the different paths their loves take as they grow up, explore love, relationships and intimacy.

And although it meanders towards the end, you’ll be glad you invested in this journey from the beginning.

Be patient.  Give it time.  And really sit in the experience of this novel if you can.

" . . . but he allowed himself to be swayed by his conviction that human beings are not born once and for all on the day their mothers give birth to them, but that life obliges them over and over again to give birth to themselves."

Love in the Time of Cholera was so barely there that it makes you question if it was there at all. García Márquez knows how to write his characters in pure flesh. It's always great to read my roots. It's always great to read an author that knows how to take good care of their reader.
