It took a little while for me to get into this book, but I am very glad I stuck through to the ending. What a shocker of an end! Was not expecting it at all!

Digital audiobook read by Mary Peiffer
Book five in the “alphabet” series has PI Kinsey Milhone dreading a not very merry Christmas. Her ex-husband, Daniel, pops in to complicate matters, and she can’t get the bank to take seriously the $5,000 mistake they’ve clearly made by crediting her account for a check she did not deposit. So, she’s pleased to have a case to investigate. But not for long; she’s accused of insurance fraud and finds herself out on her own trying to clear her name.
What I love about the series is the time frame – no cell phones or computers. Kinsey has to rely on her wits and good old-fashioned footwork to ferret out the information she needs. There are a lot of characters, most of whom are suspects, and enough twists and turns to keep this reader guessing right up to the reveal.
Mary Peiffer does a fine job of narrating the audiobook. If I actually read the text of one of these books, I’m sure I’ll hear Peiffer’s voice as Kinsey.

I finally made my way back to the Kinsey Millhone mystery series. I’m slowly starting to enjoy the series but I’m ready for Kinsey to get a love life and something more than just work – and maybe a place she can call her own that is not in someone’s back yard.
In this adventure, Kinsey finds herself investigating the cause of a warehouse fire, but what starts out as a distracting from her lonely holiday plans turns into chaos. She finds a large sum of money has been deposited into her bank, and suddenly she is being linked to a crime she’s not even sure exists.
I enjoyed this adventure not only because it involved Kinsey directly and her having to defend herself and solve a crime for herself as a client, but also because we got more background into her past life, her previous marriage, and more of her personality – especially during the holidays.
I’m looking forward to see what the next book has in store – hopefully more on Kinsey’s personal life – at least I hope at some point it’s not just about the work.

This book just happened to take place over the Christmas season, so good unintentional planning on my part. I just really like this series of books and the writing style of this author.

Kinsey seems to be getting herself into more and more trouble as this series moves on. She's been shot before, but this time she gets blown up by a bomb! This story takes place over the Christmas period and Kinsey realises that she is actually lonely, especially with her neighbour, Henry, out of town. She is asked to investigate a fire for the insurance company she sometimes works for. Before she knows it however, she finds herself kicked off the case, with $5000 deposited into her account and the possibility of being investigated by insurance fraud. This one really kept me guessing right up until the end!

I love the way the author goes into detail of the scenes as they come up in the book making you see the locations in your mind. This was another page turner in the series, and this time i had no clue on the out come into it was reveled at the end and for me it came out of nowhere.
