not quite as good as the first but it was enjoyable to see the character evolve

Spoilers below! With thanks to Lovereading.co.uk and Penguin for the copy of The Rosie Effect for review!

First thought when this arrived in my mailbox: YAY, YAY, YAY!

The Rosie Effect is the immensely and highly anticipated sequel to The Rosie Project. I thoroughly adored The Rosie Project last year and as anyone who has read the book will know, it's pretty unique.
Don Tillman is quite the inimitable character as we learned in his Wife search in book one, when he found the woman he would love called Rosie in his "Wife Project". Now married to Rosie in a lovely ceremony and then living in New York, Don is slowly adapting to his new life. That's until Rosie drops the unexpected news that she's pregnant, and it shatters Don's plan for the near future. So armed with this new news, Don has to rethink everything he planned for him and Rosie, creating a whole new project for him to focus on that inevitably starts one of the best novels I’ve read this year.
Don and Rosie really are the most hilarious, unique and fun characters in a book you’ll find. They'll have you in hysterics, then crying, and then laughing again. The Rosie Effect was the perfect addition to The Rosie Project and I can't wait to read more from Graeme Simsion's witty, imaginative writing style. A marvellous, incredible story that will be top of everyone's to-read list! You'll fall for Rosie and Don time after time.

Rosie: "Wow, I slept all the way to LA."
Don: "Incorrect. We're returning to New York. There's a suspected terrorist on board."

Rosie looks frightened and grab my hand. Don: "No cause for fear. It's me."

😂😂😂

This wasn't nearly as good as the first, but it was still entertaining and the ending was spot on.

This book is such a disappointment compared to the first one. I enjoyed the first one so much, that I was quite excited for this second one. However, we got an extremely confusing story line, with exhausting commentary. There were plot lines and irrational decisions that came from absolutely nowhere. It is clear the author was just pushing in detail and story lines to write a book. The book, in its entirety, comes across as pointless. The characters lost main personality traits, from one book to the other, creating inconsistencies in their decisions (more story line holes) and interactions. And not only that, the story is led to a point where every single story line, character, sub-plot, EVERYTHING, is at a complete dead end of awful, confusing, disjointedness, and then the author waved his magic wand and in last few pages, suddenly everything is correct in the world, with hardly any explanation.

I extremely disliked the disjointedness of the characters, their personalities and their decisions. But I did not dislike it enough to quit reading it part way through, which is my determining factor for rating something at 1 star.

It was a struggle to get through in the middle, but I'm happy I stuck it out.

This book felt more forced than The Rosie Project. It was a bit difficult for me to get through and the end was predictable. I much preferred RP... The main characters in this book are at odds throughout the entire novel, I missed that dynamic that was captured in the first book.

It got good in the second half, I wish it were longer because the ending felt a bit rushed. But a satisfying ending.
Loveable characters: Yes

If you enjoyed the Rosie Project you'll probably like this one. The writing style is unique and you're drawn into Don's unconventional style of thinking. This went a little long for me and I wasn't wrapped up in the story hence the 3 stars but I don't have anything negative.

I read and loved the Rosie Project so when I needed something light and fun I turned to this sequel. The plotline, pacing and some of the characters left a bit to be desired but it was still the escape I needed.
