The book kept me intrigued enough that I wanted to continue reading. It's got an interesting story plot but, because she lacked experience as a thirteen-year-old writer, the character development and present day timeline aren't fully developed. I liked going back and forth between her early days and the present time. Her writing definitely got better after this book.
The first book I read from her is Demon in My View (when I was thirteen) and I remember loving it. Aubrey appears in that one so after reading this it makes me want to re-read it! Also, jsyk, the character Jessica she mentioned who writes stories about vampires? If I recall correctly, she's the main character. This makes me excited to get back into the story!

The writing style is still a little immature, but you have to keep in mind that the author was barely a teenager when she wrote it. This book sets up the world of the Den of Shadows and the potential of this young author who would make one of the greatest contributions to the way modern vampire romance lit is written.

My fond memories of this book did not let me down. Still a fun read as an adult, teenage angst unnecessary to its enjoyment.
Just wanted to revisit a favorite from when I was a pre-teen. :)

I remember reading this book series as a kid and really liking it. Its dark but still fun.
Risika is a powerful vampire from a powerful line. But she feels an intense need to get back at her vampire brother Aubrey for murdering her human brother when she was turned.
Its a really quick and no nonsense book. There aren't really any subplots. It switches between Risika's life as a vampire and her life as a human before she was turned.
Even though I have a lot of nostalgia for this book, I barely remembered the plot. I think I remember the next book in the series a lot more than this one.

3 ½ Stars
In the Forest of the Night is the first book in The Den of Shadows series by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. I was impressed to discover that this first book of the series was written when the author was just thirteen years old. Now, that’s quite an accomplishment!
This is a great YA, paranormal fantasy series with vampires, shapeshifters, supernatural elements, mystery, suspense, danger, action, adventure, drama, and is a sweet read.
Risika is a powerful 300 year-old vampire, whose about to have her world turned upside down!
An original take on vampire lore- with well developed and interesting characters. It’s well crafted and is a credit to Ms. Atwater-Rhodes!
A fun read!
Thank you, Ms. Atwater-Rhodes!

This book is weird. It had a unique twist on vampires, but the characters are all so power hungry it's startling. I'm not exactly sure what to think of it. Rachel/Riska and her brother also confuse me. I'm not sure if I will read the next one.
