I ended up enjoying this book more than the first one in the series which is opposite from a lot of other people's opinions.  this book is just constantly moving forward, but it does so without compromising on character development and character interactions. The only thing that I was not a huge fan of was the very end. It just felt like everything got super rushed right at the end.
Like all of a sudden Kai is back in action and was definitely good the entire time. He has crazy super powers and is able to swoop in and save the day. And then he reconciles with Maggie almost instantly. It was crazy rushed.
A little bit of a disappointment after an otherwise good book.

An improvement on the first book in the series - the plot is more cohesive and the characters have more depth. It still leans heavily on cliche and feels amateurish, but it’s a mostly enjoyable page turner

Because it has been a while since I read the first one, it took a minute to remember who everyone was and what had happened. But once I remembered, I was hooked. I loved the addition of Ben to the cast, and that we got a cool girl gang for most of the book. I'm not sure if/when the next book will come out, but I can't wait for it!

Another great adventure with Maggie and Kai, I flew through this story as well, but more of a quest than the mystery that the first one had. Super sad that this ends on a cliffhanger and that there will likely be no more of this series 😭

I liked this one better than first one. It was a little more cohesive and MUCH warmer, with stronger friendship and developing found family vibes. The main character's development over the two books taken in whole is excellent and I still love her dearly. The locusts and cult thing were VERY creepy, and will feed my nightmares for awhile. There were still some narrative and motivational leaps that I did not understand and some unanswered questions, but there were some things that happened in this novel that helped bolster some of the same from the first novel, so maybe more answers will come in the next one?? Fingers crossed!!
