Almost DNF'd. Really didn't enjoy the writing style and thought most of it was boring. Each chapter was usually 2-3 pages long and would end/switch POV for seemingly no reason. The plot wasn't really strong and
nothing much happened to them, leaving the ending to be ultimately extremely unsatisfying.

I feel like there could have been some really cool potential to do more with the woman who died and Rolf's entire character, but they were ultimately just kind of used as a device to be like "hey, this neighbor guy is pretty creepy, huh?"
So much is left unanswered and vague but not in a gothic, mysterious way. It's like the author had a lot of good ideas to go off of but didn't fully flesh them out and instead just began writing.

similar to the haunting of hill house. i'm sure a lot of inspiration was pulled from there. i want more from this book. i feel like things weren't completely answered/thought through. too many loose ends/confusing things.

I want to like this, really, but it just makes no sense. It’s clear that’s the intention but how do you write a novel with this many subplots and resolve literally none of them? I’m invested, I finished the book, and it’s so dissatisfying. What did I read? I have no idea. What’s the point? I have no idea. Does the author know? Does anyone know? I’m not mad, I’m disappointed. *shrug*

  • 'I loved this book up until the last chapters. I had so many  hypotheses of what could be happening and was hanging on to each page...when it ended.
There was no mention again of the neighbor living in their walls (or if it even happened), if they were actually being haunted, what happens with their relationship, and even if it was a metaphor for their marriage.
The ending felt rushed and 'up to interpretation' consequently making it seem sloppy and unfinished. I finished the book with more confusion than when I started, and no, not in a 'wow what just happened' way.'
