What a wild ride this journey has been. I truly do love this series, and I devoured it, all 5 books within a month! I cherish these books, and can definitely see myself rereading them in the future.

The climax and ending in this final book felt very very abrupt though, and was almost dizzying to keep up with. But with the Afterword from Isabella it was all wrapped up quite nicely, and felt satisfying.

Regardless, I LOVE this series and am very looking forward to checking out the spin off novel about Isabella's granddaughter.

Thank you Marie Brennan for writing these stories.

This entire series is such a delight and I have rarely identified with a character more than Lady Isabella Trent. I have also been in love with dragons since childhood. And I chose to study anthropology and archaeology for my degree, so the addition of the Draconean civilization only made me adore the series even more.

This concluding installment to the series was the perfect ending. And I very much enjoyed the twist that I most definitely did not see coming. This is undoubtedly a series that will bring me joy for years both in remembering and rereading it.

Um...that was absolutely insane. I was not expecting that twist AT ALL.
It was a little slow at first, as usual for the series, but it also picked up once the expedition began. At first I wasn't sure what to think of the plot twist,
(My first thought was "ok Black Panther: Wakanda Forever 😂)
tbh I'm still not sure, I fucking loved the book, for sure, but it's just so crazy that I've decided not to think too much about wether it makes sense, or is too deranged, or whatever, I liked the book and that's what matters, but I could understand if it was too much for some people and they didn't like it.
I think it was a fitting ending to what Isabella said in the fourth book "not her life story, but the story of how she came to be who she is known to be now". And after everything she did in the previous books, of course she had to do something absolutely grandiose in this one to be accepted into the Philosopher's Colloquium, so like, it checks out.

All in all - well done if a little fantastic. A fun variation on "steam-punk" to "dragon-punk."

We finally sum up the life of Lady Trent - our grand adventuress in pursuit of knowledge of Dragons - with her husband Suhail.

Purely fantastic! Some twists and turns in the story at first annoyed me and made me dissapointed, but they were handeled splendidly, and early enougj to be fully examined, and thus it worked out better than expected. A truly amazing final book in such a great series!
