Not bad, but Priest was better.

The first part of the book starts out predictable like other smutty books. Then out of nowhere you’re hit with tense waves of concern and contemplation.

Beautiful.

I, surprisingly, liked this a lot! The initial talk about religion and god had me put off, but I powered through and was happy with the story. Seeing as I am kind of anti-religion and very much anti-catholicism, I liked the philosophizing around belief that the narrator did with the help of the other characters. None of the characters seemed to have an uncomplicated relationship with their belief and that sold it for me. The heedless devotion, that is quite American, is a huge issue for me, but there was very little of that brand of religion here. Personally I don't feel differently about religion after reading this, but I can definitely appreciate the exercise in belief vs non-belief. And the spice was out of this world.

4.75stars🌟"To be fully human is to be fully sexual, and while that doesn't mean having sex or even sexual desire, it does mean being fully in your body. It means recognizing that there's nothing any less holy about your body than there is about your soul, that as long as your body is treated with consent and respect and affection — and that you treat the bodies of others in the same way— there's nothing inherently sinful about your flesh. About its desires or lack of desires. About what it does or does not do. You do not have the ability to tarnish her or yourself; that right isn't given to any mortal person. She'll be no more or less holy for sex, the same goes for the lack of it."</i>

Rereading Sean Bell's story really made me appreciate the nuanced struggle between "purity" and sexuality. Such an interesting and important outlook into what it would mean if your religion was to clash with your carnal desires.

Leave it to Sierra Simone to craft a story where a playboy billionaire falls for a nun-to- be, and her way of finding and expressing an ethical, unethical and intriguing storyline.

I mean, the smut was also pretty fantastic. Also the mouth on this man had me sweating 🥵.

Tw; sexual content, cancer, vulgar language, racism, mentions of pedophilia and suicide.

Let me start by saying that yes, there will be an abundance of sex and talk about sex in very explicit writing on this book but there will be a lot of talk about how one who “hates” God retrieves back his belief in God.

I am not a religious person and a lot of time during this book, I felt that I can understand where Sean was coming from. Why he can’t understand Tyler, Zenny or his mother. There were also some points in the story where I felt that maybe, if Sean can find his way back to God that others can to. As Zenny said, “you can do both” when it comes to thinking that God is guilty of a lot of things but at the same time still pray to him.

For me this book was beyond better than Priest in terms of the characters and the story.

I truly did love this from start to finish.
