I thought this book was marginally better than the first. Many of the same features apply, but the plot moved along a bit more and the conversations did a good job of pushing the intrigue. Looking forward to the next one!

The second installment of King's Dark Tidings follows directly from the first. We get to see Rezkin's group of friends grow. The characters aside from Rezkin are still rather simple but they interact and complement each other in interesting ways. There are finally some indications that Rezkin isn't perfect as he starts juggling several personas and, more importantly, he ends up facing some moral dilemmas that really make him question his purpose and training. I can't say the moral quandaries or his solution to them are terribly interesting- clearly evil tyrant, clearly good Rezkin who only receives enthusiastic support and is reluctant to take power, but it is certainly more than we got in the first book.
This time there is also a more satisfying ending with actual build up, climax, resolution and permanent consequences.

Fastest book I have ever read/listened to on Audible and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has finished all of Brandon Sanderson's material and would like a simple story with a larger than life, better than everyone else character.

Much like the first book the action, world building and male characters are amazing! However, the female characters, well most, are vapid, whiny and just pale annoying. Frisha does NOTHING but get on my nerves! Who has hurt you Kel? With many of the females only being small parts I can ignore them and will continue. That being said, like my last review, if you are looking for strong females, or even females with more on their mind then being arm candy, or WHAT THEY WANT *foot stomping* you aren't going to find it in this series.

Does it make sense if I say that this is a better book, but a less entertaining book?
I don't really get the point of reviewing books in a series past the first one. That is unless the series becomes terrible. So here is all you need to know: If you like the first book, you'll like this one. If you didn't like the first book, this one doesn't improve enough to make it worth it. If you are on the fence, read on.
The biggest difference is that the supporting characters of the first book, such as Frisha and Tam are basically minor characters this time around. This is probably a good thing because Frisha kind of becomes a jealous cardboard cutout. However the new supporting characters are quite enjoyable. There is a bit more depth to Rezkin and the story this time around. In fact, the overarching plot seems to have had rockets strapped to it! It moves along non-stop (in a 98% logical way).
If you were on the fence after the first book because you wanted more depth or disliked the characters of the first, grab this one. If you were on the fence because Rezkin is perfect and faces no true challenge, then pass on this sequel.
Was I entertained? Yes. Is this still a great, light-hearted book to enjoy after a long day? Oh yes. Do I still recommend it? Definitely. The third book will be a day one purchase for me.

Filled with tropes and cookie cutter characters but still entertaining. My type of beach read. It certainly would not be regarded as literature but fun regardless.
