Too much inner dialogue for me. I do think a rambling inner dialogue can be done right (see “The Nobleman’s guide to scandal and shipwrecks”) but it has to be done with intent. If I’m reading pages upon pages of blocked text, I want to be learning something about the character in that time. Unfortunately in this book it was just repetitive. The same character just kept repeating the same thing over and over and over.
Overall, I think the concept for this book was good and the characters were definitely interesting, but the writing needs some refining. Kill your darlings as I they say.

I really enjoyed this book and can´t wait to read the next one! It had an interesting magic system, well developed characters, and a solid plot. I loved the prose as well.

4.5 stars, because it gets a bit repetitious and I'm never a fan of that. However, I do like the worldbuilding, and adore the characters and how sweetly they negotiate their power exchange dynamic. I'll certainly read the next book in this projected trilogy because I need to know what happens, though we end with a little breathing room. Good, since book 2 is not even up for pre-order yet.

I assume there will be more books, since this one left external plot points open. Fairly fluffy and sweet, with interesting magic world building. I'd read another.
