There are parts of this autobiography that I loved and parts that I didn't. I loved him telling us about the Lion King, Billy Elliot, Diana and John Lennon. I loved how honest, open and self-reflective he is. But I really didn't like the excessive name dropping and how choppy the book is, especially in the first 150 or so pages. I am glad that I read the book but I don't think I'd read it again. I liked the movie about his life much, much better. 3/5
Being a huge Elton fan, this review may be slightly biased so I’ll try to contain my enthusiasm and fan boy hyperbolism... A thoroughly enjoyable read into the life of one of the most famous pop/rock megastars that has ever walked the face of the Earth!!! (Well, I tried).
From the highs (lots of those involving a certain white powder) to devastating lows (Ryan White, Gianni Versace, Princess Diana) to behind the scenes gossip (Tina Turner, George Michael) to becoming sober and raising a family, this book has it all! Although, he left out the part where I came to his house for a meeting about a sequel to Gnomeo & Juliet. He may not remember, but I always will!

A gregarious and sparkling life mixed with darkness, addiction and depression. An interesting life and an enjoyable read.
Fantastic!
It’s been a long time that I’ve read a book so compelling that it kept me occupied for pretty much three days straight. My wife and I saw him in concert in 2019, our first concert in 30 years, and we just loved it. I always liked his music and was familiar with a lot of it, but my appreciation grew after seeing him perform live. He’s lived a fascinating life, and he writes candidly about it in an easygoing style.

Oh God. Oh, wow. This book was emotional and hilarious and so, so good. At my age, I feel like I could be Elton's granddaughter, and this whole book really just felt like sitting down with him for a cuppa tea and talking about his insane life. It's wonderful.
Now I want to watch Rocketman again and wish this man another couple of dozen years with his husband and kids. GOD I'M EMOTIONAL.

Heartfelt and entertaining. Elton's real, flawed, bitchy beautiful voice shines through, even though Taron Egerton read it for him.
The last words of this book are “I don’t ask ‘what if’ I ask “what’s next”
If you enjoyed Rocketman, you are sure to enjoy this deep dive into the life of Elton John. I believe this was meant to listen to, as the version I enjoyed was read by Taron Egerton, who played John in the movie.
There are so many details to Johns life that make it spectacular. A movie could not hope to cover it all but the book gives that canvas.

skimmed the HECK out of this one.
Was never terribly interested in reading about the drug & sex adventures of this rock star. Used this book as a filler between other readings.
