I very rarely rate books 5 stars, but in this case I just had to. Elton's memoir is an honest, shocking, and hilarious rollercoaster. I love his personality and unique sense of humor and I have a great respect for his talent. Elton John is a true musical genius but he is also a human being who owns the good, the bad, and the ugly of his life. I read the audiobook, which he co-reads with Taron Egerton (who played him in Rocketman) and I really enjoyed Egerton's reading.
If eating disorders are a trigger for you, just know bulimia is discussed. There are NO needle drugs though! Thank God! Needle drugs freak me out more than anything, so I was glad to see they were not one of Elton's vices.
I really enjoyed this book. It's all the Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll you would expect from a Rockstar's memoir. It goes from his childhood to the present day. Some of this book made me profoundly sad, but it was profound sadness with a soundtrack. Also, the paperback has an additional chapter.

Being an Elton John fan, I knew I would like this but it very much exceeded my expectations. I laughed a ton and also cried many times. It was wonderfully written and I enjoyed reading it immensely. Highly recommend!

It's difficult to put a rating to someone's account of their own life. The story was well written and there were lots of things I didn't know about Elton John. Can't wait to see him on his farewell tour this year.
My love for Elton John is bigger than anything else in my life.
Elton John has always meant so much to me; I've grown up on his music, but when I entered my early teens, his music suddenly changed something within me. He has helped me accept myself in a very basic way, and now he inspires me every single day to be me, with crazy outfits and very verbal opinions.
I love Elton, he's truly one of the greatest people in the music industry and this autobiography just,,,, it just set that in stone. He is funny and compelling, but he has truly lived through some difficult times, and this book painted a perfectly flawed image of a perfectly flawed human being. It didn't sugarcoat anything, it never made Elton seem as a hero or a saint, and it just supports the image I have of Elton, as this outrageously proud man, who knows his flaws - one of the many reasons I love him so dearly.
Other than painting this unique picture of this unique man, the book really gave a clear insight into what the music and entertainment industry was, and still is, like. It may have been a book about Elton, but it also tells the story of a dark and dangerous industry, its characters, the ups and downs, the tragedies, and the celebrations. It talks about AIDS and HIV, addiction, suicide, mental health, sickness, sexuality, homophobia, family relations, and a ton of other things that are important and relatable to so many people.
I listened to half of the story on audiobook, and Taron Egerton is just as brilliant of a narrator, as he is of an actor. He brings the story to life, and it's clear to see and hear the special bond he and Elton has. Mad love to both of them.
I love this book, I love this man, and I'll forever treasure the way he has shaped, saved, and changed my life.

I had always had Elton John on my radar, I loved his classic songs such as I'm Still Standing, Don't let the sun go down on me and Step into Christmas amongst many others. However it wasn't until Rocketman the Elton John Biopic hit the cinemas that I really fell in love with him and his music and story.
I knew nothing of his struggle with drugs and alcohol and his rocky relationships with his parents. I wanted to know more so finally got myself the audiobook loan through Borrow Box . It is read wonderfully by Taron Egerton and Elton John also reads a bit at the beginning and end. So lovely that Taron recorded it having played Elton in said film. I learnt so much about him as a person, he seems like a real genuine sweetheart and cares a lot for others and people he meets. He likes shopping as much as I do which made me smile how ever I have nowhere near his budget to spend. He has had many highs and plenty of lows and I enjoyed listening to it all. If you enjoyed watching Rocketman I think you would also enjoy hearing more about his past all the way up to the present day. I'd give it a a Rocketing 4 Lucy Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐
